🎉 North Carolina Destination Imagination is incredibly proud to celebrate our Senior Level Fine Arts Team, Sophie and The Skyscrapers, for earning 12th place at this year’s Global Finals!
While their goal was to make the Top 10—and they missed it by only 6 points—their achievement is nothing short of extraordinary.
This team of dedicated juniors and seniors balanced demanding school schedules, activities, jobs, and responsibilities while creating a solution that was truly magical and deeply meaningful. Their performance told an emotional story about how jealousy can transform people into monsters, delivering a message that resonated through creativity, artistry, and innovation.
Along the way, these students didn’t just create a performance—they developed real-world skills and pushed themselves far beyond their comfort zones. They learned and applied:
🔨 Carpentry
🎵 Music composition and recording
🎭 Life-size puppetry
🎨 Painting and visual arts
🧵 Sewing and costume design
⚙️ Welding
📋 Project management and time management
💵 Budgeting and financial planning
And they accomplished all of this while designing and producing their entire solution for under $175.
Their placement is impressive—but what makes us most proud is their determination, creativity, teamwork, resilience, and willingness to learn. They represented North Carolina and Burke County with excellence and showed what student-driven innovation can achieve.
