Casting for Hope

Casting for Hope An ovarian and gynecological cancer assistance organization for patients living in NC.

Casting for Hope is committed to providing financial assistance to women in western North Carolina who are living with ovarian or other gynecological cancers. But more than that, Casting for Hope is committed to attending to the emotional and spiritual needs of these same women and their families through fly-fishing retreats, fly-tying and rod-building clinics, and other avenues of personal and fa

mily re-creation. Our financial assistance focuses on women who are experiencing economic hardships due to treatment costs, while our retreat experiences serve women and their families and friends regardless of financial need. Retreats focus on emotional and spiritual healing in the out of doors, chasing trout with a fly rod, and experiencing comfort by running waters.

Huge congrats to Chicken Salad Chick on their grand opening! We are thankful to have been designated as the nonprofit partner for their Friends & Family Day earlier this week.

It’s a wonderful thing when businesses invest in their local community. Thanks to everyone who came out to be the first to try out their food and to support CFH! 💙

The Casting for Hope team is excited to host its 8th annual “Hope in the Hills” benefit event at Hidden Hill Venue on Friday, September 25th. Guests will be treated to a night of delicious food, wine, music from local artists, and the opportunity to support a cause that serves women and families across the state.
Casting for Hope is celebrating its 15th year of service to North Carolinians faced with a gynecological cancer diagnosis. This year, Hope in the Hills will be even more special, knowing that CFH has reached such an important milestone. Many of the organization’s earliest supporters are based in Morganton and surrounding areas, so this event is a perfect occasion to celebrate 15 years of Casting for Hope.

“Hope in the Hills is always an incredibly important night, as it falls in September during ovarian and gynecological cancers awareness month," said Co-Founder and Board Chair, Taylor Sharp. “Raising money at this event helps cover the costs of our Survivor and Caregiver Retreats, where patients from across the state come to Bakersville, NC for an all-expenses-paid weekend of respite, nourishing food, community with other survivors, and a chance to fly fish in trophy trout waters.”

Funds raised at this event also benefit Casting for Hope’s financial assistance programming. “It is a crucial time to support our organization, as the patients we serve are experiencing more financial hardship than ever before,” said CFH Director of Patient Services and Retreat Programming, Shannon Byrne. “As of May 15, we had received more new applications than we did throughout all of 2025.” The organization invites the community to give generously to continue delivering essential services to patients who are in need of their financial assistance.

Hope in the Hills guests should expect a night to remember with three sets of live music with one of the best mountain views as the backdrop. This year, the featured artists are Lilly & Tinley, Zack Kardon (Southern Pine) and The Alligators. Attendees will also have the chance to hear from local women and families who have benefitted from Casting for Hope’s work.

All in attendance will be provided with a delicious meal and an array of complimentary beer and wine offerings. The event will also feature both a silent and live auction filled with artisan goods and exclusive experiences that guests will have the opportunity to bid on, such as guided fly-fishing experiences or the opportunity to fly in a WWII biplane over the Linville Gorge and Lake James.

To purchase tickets for the event, visit www.castingforhope.org/hope-in-the-hills. If you are interested in sponsoring this event, donating an item or experience for the auction, or volunteering during the event, please reach out to CFH Executive Administrator Erica Baxter at [email protected].

Please share with your friends to ensure this year is another sellout!

We are extremely appreciative and honored to receive support from Crane Charitable Funds as part of The Crane Fund for Women and Children. Their contribution goes a long way in helping us put on our Survivor and Caregiver Retreats, and helps us further our financial assistance offerings for women in WNC faced with a gynecologic cancer diagnosis.

September is National Ovarian and Gynecologic Cancers Awareness Month. We hope our supporters will consider getting involved as we gear up for our next retreat taking place Sep 11-13 as well as our Hope in the Hills celebration in Morganton on Sep 25th.

From volunteering or making a donation, to becoming a fall sponsor or purchasing a ticket for Hope in the Hills, there are many ways for you to get involved. Learn more about our work at www.castingforhope.org.

Back in April, just before our Spring Survivor and Caregiver Retreat, we had the opportunity to tell the Casting for Hope story to our new friends at 100+ Women Who Care Asheville. Along with two other wonderful organizations, we pitched our mission (in a Shark Tank style) and answered questions about the impact we are making in the lives of North Carolinians faced with a gynecological cancer diagnosis. The members of their giving community voted in real time and ultimately contributed over $7,500 to CFH to further our financial assistance programming in WNC. 💙

We share this good news to remind everyone of the power of coming together with your neighbors to collectively create change in your own communities. If you’re in the Asheville area and have interest in becoming part of this great group, head over to www.100womenwhocareasheville.org to learn more!

Casting for Hope Family and Friends,
Last year I was at our beloved Retreat center digging out debris from the river bank left by Helene.
I came across and dug out an American flag, deep in the dirt, worn and tattered.
Today seems the most perfect day to share it with you all.
It reminds me of how strong, courageous and compassionate we all are when we come together to support each other and our mutual 'pursuit of happiness.'
May you All be Blessed
Thank You
Happy 4th!
