Today we honor Indigenous Peoples’ Day. 🧡

Long before there was a Burke County, this land along the Catawba River was home to Indigenous communities, including the Catawba and Cherokee peoples, and the town of Joara, which was one of the largest Native American towns and trade centers in NC.

Today, we pause to recognize that history and celebrate the Indigenous neighbors who continue to shape Western NC.

🎁 Toys for Tots Applications Are Open! 🧸

We’re excited to team up once again with the Marine Corps League Table Rock Detachment Detachment 1197, First Presbyterian Church Morganton, and Waldensian Presbyterian Church to distribute toys across Burke County this holiday season for children aged infant - 11 years ❤️

👉 Applications are open now until November 29th!

Families will pick up toys at one of two locations, depending on their school district. Volunteers, keep an eye out for toy packaging opportunities soon!🎄

The 7th Annual 24-Hour 1BurkeGives Giving Day is happening on Tuesday, December 1st 2026, and we’re so excited to see Burke County nonprofits come together once again to raise funds on . If you're a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in/serving Burke County, registration is now open at 1burkegives.org. The deadline to register is November 9th!
✔️ Participation is FREE
✔️ Each nonprofit gets a dedicated online fundraising page
✔️ Compete for cash prizes and access marketing tools to boost donations

In previous years, we’ve had between 30-40 nonprofits participate, engaged more than 400 donors in a single day, and collectively raised over $100K as a community. 💙

Looking for extra grocery assistance this month?

The Mobile Food Pantry is an opportunity for families in need of groceries to get assistance. Mobile Pantries serve as a way for us to take the food pantry to different areas in the county to make getting groceries more accessible.

This month, it is being sponsored by North Morganton United Methodist Church and will be at 990 Sanford Dr, Morganton, NC 28655.
Distribution will begin at 10 am on September 22nd and run while supplies last
