The Swiss American Historical Society (SAHS) was founded in Chicago in 1927. We do this through publications & outreach. OFFICERS:

It was established to promote the study of the Swiss in America, Swiss-American relations, and Swiss immigration to the United States. The SAHS encourages American interest in Swiss history and culture, unites those involved in genealogical research, and serves as a link between Swiss Americans, Swiss, and Americans in fostering cultural awareness and mutual understanding. Chapters of the Society exist in Switzerland and North America. The Society publishes the Swiss American Historical Society Review three times a year, along with a number of other book publications. Switzerland’s first time at the helm of the world’s largest regional security body

In 1996, a Swiss foreign minister was Chairman-in-Office of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) for the first time. Switzerland, which was not a member of the UN, NATO or the EU, was therefore able to make its presence felt on the international stage.

Basel's art story began long before Art Basel. 🎨🇨🇭

Today, Basel is one of the world's best-known art destinations, but its connection to art has been centuries in the making.
The city has nearly 40 museums, around one for every 5,000 residents. Its location at the crossroads of Switzerland, France and Germany, together with a long tradition of collectors, patrons and cultural institutions, helped make Basel a major centre for art.

Several milestones shaped this story. The University of Basel, founded in 1460, contributed to the city's intellectual life. In 1661, the city and the university acquired the Amerbach Cabinet, laying the foundations for what became Europe's oldest public art collection. In 1967, Basel's citizens voted to acquire two Picasso paintings, an extraordinary example of public support for art.

When Art Basel was launched in 1970 by three local gallery owners, it built on a city already deeply rooted in artistic life.

Today, the fair is one of Basel's defining cultural events, but it is only one part of a much bigger art story.
