Susan* is 14 and the oldest child. Her parents separated, and each remarried, the mom leaving the children in the care of the father, who married two women. Growing up in this environment, Susan faced emotional and behavioral challenges. She struggled with stealing and would sometimes take money from neighbors and run away.

One day, she stole from a classmate. When the teacher sent her home to bring her parents, fear and shame overwhelmed her. Instead of returning to school, she stayed absent for a whole week. When her father eventually questioned her about the absenteeism, Susan panicked, fearing harsh punishment. She ran away from home and went missing for several days, but was rescued and taken to Agape for rehabilitation.

At Agape, she received counseling and participated in transition and nurture classes. These sessions helped her rediscover her identity, learn how to cope with life’s challenges, and develop positive relationships with her peers. Most importantly, she heard and understood the gospel of Christ. Learning about forgiveness and reconciliation prepared her for eventual reintegration with her family.

Susan was later reunited with her grandmother, who joyfully welcomed her back. She shared that she had been praying for her granddaughter’s safety and was grateful to God for bringing her home.

Susan is doing well at home and helps her grandmother with household chores. She also continues to attend church and read her Bible, desiring to grow spiritually since professing faith in Christ. She has even joined the church choir. In school, Susan is working really hard and is determined to become a doctor or a scientist one day!

Her grandmother is grateful for the remarkable change in Scovia’s life, acknowledging that God has worked through Agape to bring transformation.

Agape will be at CAFO 2026 in Atlanta! (Sept 23-25).

This year's theme is Less: Fewer branches, better fruit--and we could all do with a little encouragement this year! This theme certainly fits with where Agape has been at as a ministry. (Did you read our latest newsletter? See our last post).

James* was abandoned by his parents when he was only eight months old. His grandmother took him in, as neither of his parents showed any interest in caring for him after they separated.

Sadly James began to steal from his grandmother. Despite her efforts to counsel him, the behavior continued, influenced by negative peer pressure from the neighborhood.

He often spent nights away from home and would return the following day. Over time, James began spending more time roaming the streets and coming home late. Eventually the grandmother sought help from Agape who took James in for rehabilitation and support.

James was enrolled in Agape’s program for three months, during which he received counseling through Scripture and life-skills training. Although he initially struggled with behavioral issues, he eventually completed the program successfully.

Last year James was reunited with his grandmother and re-enrolled in school. His story is a powerful testimony that people can truly change for the better. James no longer struggles with theft and has become a responsible boy who attends school regularly and helps his grandmother with household chores. He has also distanced himself from negative peer influences in the neighborhood.

His grandmother is overjoyed by the positive transformation she has seen in his life and expresses deep gratitude to Agape Children’s Ministry for their support and care. When we visited James at school, his teachers shared that his life has greatly transformed. They expressed their gratitude and said they continually pray for Agape because of the positive impact the ministry has had on James's life.
