Friendship tip: ask someone to teach you something they’re good at.

People light up when they get to share something they know.

Maybe they’re great at gardening, photography, cooking, pickleball, fishing, crafting, or finding the best local spots around Mobile.

Instead of trying to impress someone, try being curious:

“Can you show me how you do that?”

It creates an easy conversation, gives you something to do together, and takes the pressure off trying to force connection.

Sometimes friendship grows faster when you’re learning side by side.

What’s something you’d actually enjoy learning from someone else?

Friendship tip: ask for help with something small.

People often think making friends means always being impressive, independent, or easygoing.

But sometimes connection grows when you let someone contribute.

Ask for a recommendation.
Ask their opinion.
Ask if they know how to do something.
Ask for a small favor you genuinely need.

It gives the other person a chance to feel useful and creates a natural reason to keep the conversation going.

You don’t have to have everything figured out to be someone worth knowing.

What’s something small you’d actually feel comfortable asking a new friend for help with?

Friendship tip: let people see what you actually enjoy.

Sometimes making friends is harder when we stay too generic.

Instead of only saying, “I like going out” or “I’m pretty laid-back,” be more specific.

Mention the kind of music you love.
The hobby you could talk about forever.
The local event you’re excited about.
The weird thing you collect.
The type of weekend you genuinely enjoy.

Specific interests give other people something real to connect with.

You don’t have to impress anyone. You just have to give people a chance to recognize, “Oh, I like that too.”

What’s one interest you could talk about all day?

Friendship tip: ask people for recommendations.

It’s one of the easiest ways to start a conversation without forcing it.

Ask things like:

“What’s your favorite place to eat around Mobile?”
“Have you been to any good local events lately?”
“Do you know a good place for live music?”
“What’s something fun around here that people overlook?”

People usually enjoy sharing what they like, and their answer gives you something natural to talk about next.

Sometimes making a friend starts with something as simple as, “What do you recommend?”

What’s one Mobile recommendation you’re always happy to give?

Friendship tip: don’t only check in when something is wrong.

Support matters during hard seasons—but friendship also grows when we notice the good things.

Ask how the interview went.

Celebrate the small win they mentioned.

Remember the event they were excited about.

Send a message when something reminds you of them.

People feel valued when they realize you weren’t just listening in the moment—you actually remembered.

What’s something small a friend remembered that meant a lot to you?

Friendship tip: invite people into things you’re already doing.

Making plans can feel like extra work when life is already busy.

Instead of creating a whole new event, try saying:

“I’m going for a walk later—want to join me?”
“I’m checking out this event Saturday if you want to come.”
“I’m running a few errands and grabbing lunch afterward.”
“I’m taking the kids to the park this weekend.”

Friendship can grow through ordinary life. The invitation doesn’t have to be elaborate—it just has to be genuine.

What’s something you already do that could become a friendship opportunity?

What’s your friendship love language?

Are you the friend who brings food without being asked?

The one who sends a “Did you make it home?” text?

The one who remembers the tiny detail someone mentioned weeks ago?

The one who helps without making it a big deal?

Or the one who knows exactly when to make you laugh?

Friendship care doesn’t always look dramatic. Most of the time, it shows up in small things that quietly say, “I pay attention to you.”

Friendship doesn’t always look like constant talking. Sometimes it looks like picking up right where you left off.

No guilt.

No awkward explanations.

No keeping score over who texted last.

Just two people who understand that life gets busy, but the friendship still matters.

Some friends are part of your everyday routine. Others are the kind you may not see often, but the connection still feels easy when you do.

Do you have a friendship that never feels awkward, no matter how much time has passed?
