Some people deliver packages. Others deliver connection—and for years, Downtown Mobile was lucky to have both in one familiar face. Ocie, our beloved UPS driver, is retiring!

Ocie became a constant in the weekly rhythm of downtown, known not just for his route, but for the conversations, laughter, and stories he shared along the way. Business owners came to expect his deliveries—but more than that, they looked forward to seeing him.

“I’ve been sad since he told me,” said Bella Bridesmaids owner Lexi Stewart. “We always talked about traveling—something we both bonded over because he loves to travel like I do.”

Across downtown, that sentiment is shared. “Ocie went above and beyond.” said Graysi Gartman of MCG Workforce Solutions. "I can recall several times I've chased him down for a Mardi Gras dress order that I'd missed delivery of. He can't be topped - he will be very missed."

Urban Emporium store director Nikki Moore, who frequently got deliveries from Ocie, said "He loved his job because he loved downtown. He delivered not only our packages, but happiness, too!"

Whether it was a quick hello or a longer catch-up between stops, he made an impression that went far beyond the packages while building relationships across the downtown community.

While we’re sad to see him go, we’re grateful for the energy and joy he brought to downtown week after week. Help us wish him the best in retirement (and plenty of time for travel!) by dropping your well wishes and favorite memories in the comments.
