At Tandem we believe that ALL women are strong, brave, valuable, lovable, and capable. But the world, people in our lives, and unfortunate circumstances cause us to question our abilities and worth. Sometimes the pressure of this life is too much and we give up or give in. We have found a solution: Community. We believe that when you have someone in your corner you are capable of ANYTHING. When yo

u have support, encouragement, and someone to walk alongside you, it is easier to take the next step, even when life is hard. We are creating a community of mamas who are pursuing the struggle of life together. And we are a community of mamas who are coming out on the other side stronger, braver, and better than before. For more than 40 years, motherhood has been the intersection at which we meet the women and children we serve. Tandem has been their soft place to land, offering a full spectrum of support and services to equip these families in breaking the cycle of crisis and poverty. Tandem is a 501c3 non-profit based in Minneapolis, MN. Services include prenatal medical care (midwives), mental health resources (individual therapy and support groups), crisis intervention (case management/advocacy), parenting and life skills education, employment readiness and vocational training, and humanitarian aid.

A tree does not withstand a storm because the wind is gentle. It standsbecause its roots run deep - anchored beneath the surface, drawing nourishment, connected to something stronger than what can be seen.

This year, as families in our community face instability, fear, anddisruptions, Tandem remains deeply rooted.

Rooted in compassion. Rooted in community. Rooted in the belief thatevery mother deserves stability, dignity, and support - and in the steadylove of a God who does not waver.

For nearly 20 years, St. Mary’s Greek Orthodox Church has walked alongside Tandem with unwavering faith, compassion, and integrity. Their commitment to the women and children we serve has been constant and deeply personal—showing up not just in moments of need, but year after year, with consistency and care.

They have provided generous financial support, critical funding at pivotal times, and countless truckloads of tangible supplies. But beyond what they give, it is how they give that matters most. St. Mary’s offers emotional and spiritual support rooted in humility, presence, and genuine love for others.

Honoring a Sacred Legacy of Love: Kathy & Mary

For more than two decades, Kathy and Mary served Tandem with extraordinary devotion, intention, and love. These dynamic sisters offered their time and hearts in ways that transformed simple acts of service into something deeply sacred.

They faithfully processed and washed every donation that came through our doors—but what they did went far beyond sorting clothes. With care and discernment, they curated outfits so that every woman and child who received clothing from Tandem felt seen, honored, and loved. Their ministry reflected a profound belief in dignity.

Their mantra guided everything they did: “If I wouldn’t put this on my own child, I’m not going to give it to one of our families.” That conviction showed up in every detail—from mending donations so they could be reused with integrity, to ensuring each item carried respect and care.

Kathy and Mary also faithfully showed up to support Tandem at every single fundraising event for decades. Their presence was constant, their commitment unwavering, and their love unmistakable.

Their legacy lives on—not just in the programs they supported, but in the countless families who felt God’s love through their hands. We are profoundly grateful for Kathy and Mary, and we honor the beautiful imprint they have left on Tandem and on all of us who were blessed to know them.

We are beyond grateful to Hiawatha Church for their incredible food drive that resulted in over $4,000 worth of food bags for the moms and littles in our program.

Our staff had the honor of hand-delivering these bags directly to some of the most vulnerable families in our community…meeting real needs with dignity, care, and love.

At a time when resources feel limited, partnerships like this remind us what’s possible when community shows up in a big way. Your generosity truly made an impact, and we are so thankful for your heart for families.

Honoring Two of Tandem’s Foundational Leaders: Ron & Jacqui Mason

As I reflect on my 20 years of service with Tandem, there are individuals whose leadership and guidance helped shape not only this organization, but the way I have learned to lead within it. Ron and Jacqui Mason are two of those people.

Together, they formed a dynamic and deeply impactful leadership team. Ron brought strong business acumen, strategic oversight, and steady guidance that helped strengthen Tandem’s foundation and long-term vision. Jacqui brought equal value through her gifts in networking, fundraising, and strategic thinking helping expand relationships, resources, and opportunities that allowed the mission to grow.

What made their leadership so meaningful was not just what they did, but how they did it - with wisdom, generosity, and a genuine commitment to the mission and the people it serves. Their influence helped shape Tandem into what it is today and provided guidance that has stayed with me throughout my leadership journey.

I am deeply grateful for the gifts they shared, the time they invested, and the way they helped steward Tandem forward during critical seasons of growth. Today, I simply want to honor Ron and Jacqui for the lasting impact they’ve had on this organization and on those privileged to lead alongside them.

Honoring a Faithful Partner: Annunciation Church ❤️

For more than 20 years, Annunciation Church has been a steadfast and deeply faithful partner of Tandem. Their commitment shows up in countless ways, through quarterly drives that raise critical funding, bringing a full school bus of parishioners to our annual fundraising events, and being among the very first to respond whenever a need is shared with the community.

This year, Annunciation endured an unimaginable tragedy when a shooting occurred within their church, an event that deeply impacted their parish and school community. And yet, even in the midst of grief and trauma, they continue to lead with love, generosity, and resilience.

Annunciation is more than a supporter of Tandem. They are a living example of faith in action, of what it means to care for others, even while carrying their own pain. Their compassion, consistency, and courage inspire us and strengthen our mission.

We are profoundly grateful for their partnership and for the way they show up, year after year, with open hearts and unwavering commitment.

This mama has been in our life coaching, showing up week after week, doing the hard, holy work of healing and building. And look at her now…loving on her little boy, steady on her feet, carving out a beautiful life for the two of them.

I wish you could feel the pride we feel when we see moments like this. Not because it was easy… but because she didn’t quit. And because she didn’t have to do it alone.

The mama story in our appeal letter is based on her. Real life. Real courage. Real transformation.

Some people show up with words. St. Edward’s church shows up with sleeves rolled up!! 💛

This past month, our long-standing friends at St. Edward’s Church came into Tandem House and took care of something HUGE - they replaced 3 water heaters so our new cohort of mamas can move in safe, warm, and ready to start fresh.

That kind of love is practical. It’s steady. It’s the kind that makes a house a home.

And seeing Kris (on the left) here made my heart smile. Kris was our midwife for years and delivered my youngest daughter (Sofie) so this moment feels especially full circle.
