This week, you met Brianna.

You met a 9th grader who's been interning with us since 6th grade, serves on our board, plays in band,and still finds time to grow on her own terms.

You learned how we are partners in her growth with her ensuring that we do not push her to do more but instead support her in learning how to protect her space to remember to also BE young. You learned about how she is setting boundaries, saying no and asking for support without guilt. And you learned where it's all pointing - a future in accounting or law, positioned by a teen girl who is working to understand that her worth isn't up for negotiation.

Brianna is one girl. But this week, she represents every teen girl who walks through our doors carrying more responsibility than she should have to and walks out owning her decisions, her boundaries and her future lifestyle.

We can't do this without people who believe that's worth funding.

Brianna is exploring accounting or law and literally either one fits her.

Both are fields that ask for precision, integrity and somebody who is not going to cut corners just because nobody's watching. Brianna already lives that way. She's been interning with PDI since 6th grade, sitting on our board, showing up for band and doing all of it with the same quiet discipline whether or not anyone's keeping score. It’s who she is.

What we are watching is how this is what makes her dream sustainable and not JUST impressive. This teen girl is also, most importantly, learning that her worth isn't tied to any of it. A future accountant or attorney who knows how to set a boundary, say no and ask for help isn't just skilled. This girl is positioning herself to last in a career that will ask a lot of her for decades.

This is the whole point of the work.

Brianna hasn’t needed anyone to coach her in how to be disciplined. From band to the boardroom to her internship, she shows up and she delivers mostly every time.

This is exactly why her grams enrolled her in Project DIVA International. She has been paying attention to how her granddaughter is moving as she is being this good at ‘doing’. Grams understands from being a high achiever herself that it becomes easy for her grand-daughter to let her identity quietly become all about doing.

She does not want to see her end up that way. It’s too stressful and can do all types of things to both one's mental and physical selves when achievement becomes the whole story. She is not setting her baby up to start performing her worth instead of just living her life.

So the shift hasn't been about adding another skill to Brianna's list. It has been about protecting who she is underneath the list. Learning to lean on her coach and our leadership team when she needs to not because she can't handle things alone but because she doesn't have to prove that every single time.

The shift, from doing to being, is one of the quietest, most important things we've experienced her build since she was 12 years old.

Yesterday, we introduced you to Brianna our disciplined, involved in a lot of things and still just 14 teen girl that we coach!

She is our high schooler who's good at almost everything she touches and is learning to define her boundaries as she says no more often.

Brianna's work has centered on noticing when she's full and saying so. We are coaching her to recognize this before she runs herself into an unhealthy mental state trying to prove she can wear the cape like no other. She's gotten good at asking for time to herself when she needs it and doing so without guilt attached. Listen … as adults we all know that that is not a small thing for a girl who's used to being the reliable one, the capable one and the one who shows up even when ...

That's the tool: knowing the difference between what she can do and what she actually desires to do. We are coaching her in having the voice to choose the second one, even when the first one would be easier to keep proving. We are teaching her how not to be performative.

That's the same discernment she'll need in a courtroom or a boardroom one day. The type of discernment that takes one to know when to push forward and when to stand on business about her boundaries.

It's Monday! Ready to hear about your next future in progress?

Every week we are honored to be on the preventative side of these girls' lives. Our teen girl that we are introducing to you today is determined and courageous enough to stay the course.

This week, meet Brianna.

Brianna came to us in 6th grade and is now a 9th grader. If you were to ever meet her, you would know "disciplined" doesn't even begin to cover the way she moves. She's been interning with PDI since 6th grade and each year she has been in band. She has served on our board and she's regularly logging time in Duolingo in her spare time. This summer she has worked two jobs while joining us in an advanced academy. On paper, she looks like she has it all figured out.

To be real, Brianna's story has been about us, as the adults, reminding ourselves that she's still young. It's easy to look at a girl who does this much, this well and to start treating her like she's already grown. You know if you have kids how we sometimes parent. It's easy to look at a girl who does this much, this well and start treating her like she's already grown - handing her more, expecting more, forgetting she's still supposed to be a kid.

Our work with Brianna hasn't been about adding to her plate. It's been about protecting her space to just be Brianna and not ‘Brianna who does, but Brianna, full stop.

She's still writing her story and this week, I'm going to show you what that looks like.

Every achievement marks the beginning of a new journey

At Project Diva International, we celebrate passion, determination, and the courage to pursue bigger dreams. Success isn't defined by a destination, it's shaped by the journey, the challenges, and the commitment to keep moving forward.

This week, you met Dashawna.

You met a soft soul with a fierce sense of duty as a sister, a dancer and a community citizen who takes every one of those roles seriously.

You experienced her learning to speak her mind after growing up putting everyone else first. You read how she is learning to pivot and deepen her discipline as her senior year is going to ask more of her than ever. And you heard us share how we are ensuring that she understands the importance of calendaring her life with intention instead of letting other peoples activities run her.

You saw where all of this is pointing: a future child advocacy lawyer who will stand up for kids who have no one else in their corner.

Dashawna is one girl. But this week, she represents every teen girl who walks through our doors carrying the responsibility as the oldest child and walks out knowing her voice, being more disciplined and knowing that her future is hers to build.

Her Dream

Dashawna is positioning herself to become a child advocacy attorney.

Look at who she already is: the sister who shows up for her siblings without being asked. The dancer with the discipline to train and perform at a high level. The community partner who takes her role seriously because that's who she really is.

Now imagine that same steadiness, that same sense of duty, standing in a courtroom for a child who has no one else fighting for them. Dashawna isn't just choosing a career. She's choosing to extend the same protection she's always given her own siblings to children who need someone exactly like her.

She's spent three years with us learning to use her voice and hold her own pace. She is preparing to be her best self in an industry that needs 'holistic' adults who are doing their work and able to show up pouring from their overflow and not empty cups.
