The MN PROMISE ACT is a state-funded small business revitalization program that provides grants and loans to disadvantaged businesses located in certain areas of Minneapolis, Saint Paul, and greater Minnesota. (ACER), African Economic Development Solutions (AEDS) of Minnesota, Hmong American Partnership (HAP), and WomenVenture as part of the State Fair Business Incubator program. Entrepreneurship is often sparked by passion, purpose, or the desire to shape one’s own future. For Ama, each of these forces played a role in inspiring her business journey - especially after life took an unexpected turn.

After being laid off in the summer of 2025, Ama was referred to WomenVenture by a career coach to help further develop her luxury press-on nail business, THE OCCASION. She attended a quarterly Community & Connection Night, where she learned more about the organization’s entrepreneurial programs, network of opportunities, and community of women pursuing similar goals. Shortly after, she enrolled in QuickBooks Online Basic Training and later joined Launched & Growing, which helped her visualize her business growth in a more organized and realistic way.

Minnesota’s legislative session ended without passage of critical small business relief funding - disappointing news for entrepreneurs and communities across our state.

But while the session has ended, the needs of small businesses have not.

WomenVenture continues to stand alongside entrepreneurs by deploying capital, advocating for meaningful solutions, and connecting business owners with the resources they need to grow and thrive.

Right now, we’re actively raising support through our 𝑺𝑷𝑹𝑰𝑵𝑮 𝑭𝑶𝑹𝑾𝑨𝑹𝑫 𝘾𝙖𝙢𝙥𝙖𝙞𝙜𝙣, securing operational funding to sustain and expand our work, and raising additional loan capital to meet growing demand.

The need is urgent, and your partnership matters. Together, we can strengthen Minnesota’s small business community and ensure entrepreneurs have access to the support they need when it matters most.
