Recovery is not about what you lost. It’s about what you gain.
Vin Baker’s story is a powerful reminder that recovery is built on humility, discipline, purpose, and hope. While many focused on the headlines, Vin focused on something far more important: waking up every morning sober, showing up to work, and rebuilding his life one day at a time.
At Serenity Inns, we witness stories of transformation like this every day. Recovery is not defined by your past. It is defined by the courage to begin again and the commitment to keep moving forward.
We are honored to partner with Vin Baker Recovery to help men reclaim their lives, restore their dignity, and build a future filled with hope. Every life changed is proof that recovery is possible.

Together, we can change lives.
Vin Baker said working at Starbucks after his NBA career became an important part of his recovery from addiction. Although headlines focused on the contrast between his basketball earnings and his new job, Baker said the experience gave him structure, responsibility and pride in his sobriety.
Reflecting on how the story was covered, Baker said:
“So many articles came out saying, ‘NBA player made $100 million, now working at Starbucks.’ To be perfectly honest, it was one of the best years of my life.”
Baker said his happiness came from beginning each day sober and being able to perform the work expected of him:
“I was happy that I was sober. I was waking up every morning not needing alcohol or drugs. I was actually doing the job.”
Describing the discipline the job required, Baker added:
“I’d close the store at 11:30 at night and be back at 4 in the morning to open it. It disciplined me. Going from an All-NBA player to being a Starbucks manager takes a level of humility.”
