Today is World Hunger Day which is observed annually on May 28 to raise awareness about hunger and inspire sustainable solutions to end hunger. It is a good day to remind everyone of our mission to meet the basic need for nutritious food by growing and sharing produce along with education to empower a healthy community.
Our Pay What You Can Produce stand will be open for the first time this season today loaded with our first harvest of radish.
Our main produce stand is at the edge of the parking lot at 919 Smith Road and is stocked and Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays 11-8pm. Our second stand is in collaboration with Unitarian Universalist Church 6220 Jefferson and is stocked at noon on Mondays and Thursday mornings.
Pay What You Can means that donations have supported our produce to make it free and open to everyone ensuring everyone has access, but paying any amount you can as a donation helps support continuing our mission. Some neighbors are able to pay more than market price to support their neighbors who may need to pay less this month. We want everyone to have access to fresh healthy food. Filling out a comment card is very helpful to motivate continued donations.
It has been a very cold, tough spring for produce, so we have a limited supply. Today we will have radish and salad greens. If you haven’t tried roasted radish you should!
