We are expecting dangerously low temperatures this weekend. 🥶

PLEASE BRING YOUR PETS INSIDE‼️

Even if your pet normally lives outside full time, PLEASE consider bringing them inside your home when temperatures are this low. Put them in a bathroom, laundry room, or anywhere you can INSIDE of a heated structure. Temps this low can quickly turn deadly for pets that are left outside for an extended period of time. This is especially true for dogs with short hair and lean bodies (Pit Bulls).

If you or someone you know has a pet that will be left outside for any period of time, PLEASE make sure they have adequate shelter.

IGLOO dog houses are the best option for cold weather. The extended entrance on the Igloo helps to shield pets from wind and rain while they are inside the Igloo.

Dog houses need to be insulted and have a thick layer of straw inside. Straw is the best option for bedding because it wicks away moisture. Do NOT use blankets, towels or dog beds since they retain moisture and will freeze once the temperature drops below 32*.

Elevating the dog house off of the cold ground can help, too. Bricks/Blocks can be used to elevate the dog house off the ground.

In addition to keeping your own pets safe and warm, please be sure to keep an eye out for your neighbors’ pets and stray animals. If you see an animal chained in a yard or being left outside alone in the cold for an extended period time, PLEASE REPORT IT! If you see something, say something! It could be a matter of life or death for that animal.

To report an animal in danger, call your local animal control/animal shelter. If it’s after regular business hours, call your local police department.

Kirby, Male Rottweiler, approx. 5 years old, is in need of a foster or adopter.

Kirby is a very sweet boy! Overall, he is pretty good with other dogs. However, it does seem like he probably hasn’t been around other dogs much during his life. He will sometimes overcorrect other dogs. Because of this, the ideal dog-friend for Kirby would probably be a dog with a more laid back personality. A more assertive or reactive dog may not respond well if Kirby did overcorrect them.

If anyone is willing to foster him for Memphis Rottweiler rescue, please submit a foster application here: https://form.jotform.com/memphisrottrescue/foster

Foster Home Needed ‼️

Meet Kane. He was surrendered to a local shelter today due to no fault of his own. Kane’s owner recently moved to a rental that has breed restrictions, so unfortunately, Kane cannot live there with his owner.

He is approx. 3 or 4 years old, neutered, good with dogs and kids. He is so sad about being left at the shelter. We would love to get him moved out of the shelter ASAP and into a loving home.

If you are willing to foster Kane, please submit a Foster Application: https://form.jotform.com/memphisrottrescue/foster

🚨 BRING YOUR PETS INSIDE ‼️ 🥶 🐾

IT IS TOO COLD TO LEAVE YOUR DOG OR CAT OUTSIDE RIGHT NOW, PERIOD. If you see an animal in need of help, please report it immediately! Contact numbers are listed at the bottom of this post. ☎️ ‼️

Their fur will NOT protect them in temperatures that are this low.
Even if your pet normally lives outside full time, PLEASE be a responsible owner and bring them inside your home whenever temperatures are this low.

Don't be "that person" who gets slapped with an animal cruelty charge for not protecting your pet.

Temps this low can quickly turn deadly for pets that are left outside for an extended period of time. This is especially true for dogs with short hair and lean bodies (Pit Bulls).

Single digit temperatures can be life threatening for ANY dog or cat when they are outside for an extended period of time.

Short haired dogs, small sized dogs, older dogs, and all dogs/cats with health issues are at an increased risk even when they are exposed to such low temperatures for only a short period of time.

If you or someone you know has a pet that will be left outside for any period of time while temperatures are expected to drop below freezing, PLEASE make sure they have adequate shelter.

Adequate shelter is insulated, filled with a thick layer of STRAW, and provides a safe, warm space where the animal is fully protected from the harsh elements (cold air, wind, rain/sleet/snow, etc.).

Feed outdoor dogs extra food when it's cold. Shivering burns calories. 🌭🍔
Check outside water bowls frequently! If it's frozen, it won't do them any good. 🧊

NOTE: An insulated dog house may still not be enough to keep your dog completely safe from the elements. Depending on their breed/coat, health, age, etc. It is ALWAYS BEST to bring them inside the house while temps are this low.

🚨 If you need to borrow a kennel so that you can bring your pet inside during this cold snap, please contact us! We always keep extra kennels here in case of an emergency.

In addition to keeping your own pets safe and warm, please be sure to keep an eye out for your neighbors’ pets and stray animals. If you see an animal chained in a yard or being left outside alone in the cold for an extended period time, PLEASE REPORT IT! ☎️

If you see something, say something! It could be a matter of life or death for that animal. 🙏🏻
