Self Advocates United as 1 (SAU1)

Self Advocates United as 1 (SAU1) We are a nonprofit run by people with disabilities, for people with disabilities! What do SAU1’s members do?

Are you a person with a disability, a family member, or someone interested in making sure people have full lives? Maybe you have a friend with a disability, or you work to support people with disabilities. Even if you are just curious about advocacy and the rights of people with disabilities, you are in the right place! Self Advocates United as 1 is a group of people who envision a world where peo

ple with developmental disabilities and their families are united to share knowledge, empower others, and use their voices to transform their communities and people's lives. Our Board of Directors and voting members are people with disabilities from all over the state of Pennsylvania. We help each other and any people with disabilities and their families across PA. We hold letter-writing, e-mail, and phone workshops to help others learn how to advocate for change. We speak to anyone who will listen about people’s right to live the life they want and fight so everyone has that right. SAU1 teaches people at many levels about full inclusion and rights for all people.

🚨📰 Emergency Power News! Contact your Representative Now to Speak Up for Medicaid Before They Vote!

There is still time to speak up for Medicaid. You can still call your representatives and tell them to vote NO on the Big Beautiful Bill!

The House of Representatives hasn't voted yet, but they want to vote sometime today. Check out the information from our Friends at Disability Rights Pennsylvania below for an update on what would happen if this Bill passes, and how you can reach out to your representatives right now!

Lawmakers have taken a dangerous step. Today, July 1, 2025, the Senate passed an amended version of H.R. 1, also known as the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” - a sweeping bill that would cut vital programs and strip away protections for people with disabilities. The Senate version of this bill has even bigger cuts to these services.
If this bill becomes law, it will:

📌Take away Medicaid services for millions of Americans, and over 700,000 Pennsylvanians.
📌Eliminate around 61,000 Pennsylvania jobs that are heavily funded by Medicaid dollars.
📌Cut federal funds to SNAP, which may mean that Pennsylvania won’t be able to have a continued SNAP program.
📌Reduce staffing regulations on nursing homes and long-term care facilities.

No matter the name, they mean the same thing: cuts, burdens, and barriers for our community. There is no room for compromise here. H.R. 1 must be opposed. Take action by following instructions below!
