Thank you to the Parker Foundation for awarding Bethesda Lutheran Services a $2,500 grant to support our Summer Learning and Credit Recovery Program! 📚✏️

Our Director of Stewardship accepted the grant during Wednesday’s check presentation.

For young people whose education has been interrupted by school changes, missed attendance, or instability, summer offers a valuable opportunity to catch up and move forward.

Through Bethesda’s Summer Learning and Credit Recovery Program, students receive individualized academic and behavioral support, with high school students able to earn up to 2.5 credits over the summer, helping them make up lost coursework and move closer to graduation.

As we work to sustain this important program amid reduced funding, this generous grant will help provide the teaching and behavioral support our students need to succeed.

As we continue celebrating Red Ribbon Week at Bethesda Trinity Center, we’re sharing information about the risks of substance use and encouraging open conversations about staying drug free.

Parents, caregivers, and trusted adults all have a role to play. Take time to ask what the young people in your life know, listen to their questions, and remind them they can come to you for support.

Making a difference can start with being someone they trust.

Never underestimate what kindness can mean at the right moment. 💚⭐

A mentor may not always realize which conversations, words of encouragement, or small gestures will stay with a young person. Sometimes, simply knowing that someone genuinely cares and believes in them can make a difference that lasts long beyond the time they spend together.

Each year, our Christmas elves help put gifts under the tree for the children and youth we serve. But behind every gift is something even more special - someone who took the time to think of them and make their Christmas a little brighter.

Red Ribbon Week activities kick off today at Bethesda Trinity Center!

We’re starting with Family Night and continuing through October 30 with crafts, pledges, Wear Red Day, and more! Along the way, our students will learn about staying drug free and how their choices can make a positive difference in their lives and the lives of others.

Mentors don’t just watch growth happen. They get to be part of it!

According to MENTOR National, 85% of young people with a mentor say that relationship helped them with school and their education. For one of our North Star mentors, the reward has been seeing a young person grow and knowing they had a role in supporting that success.

Last Friday, we welcomed fellow nonprofit and faith-based leaders to our Leadership Center for The Nonprofit Partnership’s Mission & Ministry Meet-Up!

Over a delicious lunch from our ILP Snack Shack Food Truck, we had the opportunity to share more about Bethesda’s work and connect with others committed to serving our region. Thank you to The Nonprofit Partnership for coordinating this gathering and to everyone who joined us!

Tomorrow, October 10, is World Mental Health Day. 🩵🦋

At Bethesda, supporting young people’s mental health is part of everything we do. Sometimes it’s a familiar routine, encouragement from a trusted staff member, or time spent drawing and painting to work through emotions.

Other times, it’s simply making room for the joys of childhood.

“Let kids be kids,” says Monica James, our Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility Therapist. “If we need to have a movie and hot cocoa night, we do it!”

Every young person has unique needs, and our staff work to provide individualized care that helps youth build confidence, develop healthy coping skills, and form positive relationships.

For Residential Therapist Ashley Courson, one of the most important parts of that care is the “presence of knowing someone will always be there.” Those meaningful connections can continue long after youth leave our care.

This World Mental Health Day, we celebrate the dedicated staff, everyday moments, and lasting relationships that help children and youth build healthier, brighter futures!

Because every young person deserves the opportunity for a Promising Future.

Thank you to everyone who helped make our 11th Annual Clays for Kids Clay Shoot a success! 🎯

Even with a little rain, we had a great day at Sandycreek Conservancy this past Friday, October 2. We’re grateful to our participants, sponsors, donors and volunteers for supporting Bethesda Foundation for Children and the children and youth we serve.

A special thank-you to Sandycreek Conservancy and their crew for hosting us and helping everything run smoothly!
