DO YOU SPEAK BIKER? 🏍️

When you’re riding in a pack, communication matters.

You can’t exactly shout to the rider behind you that there’s a hazard ahead, the pack is slowing down, you’re moving into single file or somebody needs fuel.

That’s where motorcycle hand signals come in.

A few simple movements can pass an important message from the front of the pack all the way to the back — provided everyone knows what they mean and passes them on.

Hand signals are an important part of pack riding. They allow riders to communicate quickly without taking their attention away from the road.
👉 Left & right turns
✋ Stop
⬆️ Speed up
⬇️ Slow down
☝️ Single file
✌️ Double file
🏍️ Follow me / You lead
⚠️ Hazard in the roadway
👊 Close up
🥤 Refreshment stop
⛽ Fuel
🚔 Cops ahead
➡️ Pull off
💡 Turn signal on

But knowing the signals is only half the job.

When a signal reaches you — PASS IT BACK.

The rider behind you needs that information just as much as you did. A signal that stops halfway through the pack isn’t much use to the riders at the back.

When joining a Steelwings West Rand ride, pay attention to the Road Captain’s briefing before departure. Know the formation, know who is leading, know who the Sweep is and make sure you understand the signals being used for that ride.

And remember — hand signals are there to communicate what matters.

Good pack riding takes awareness, discipline, communication and consideration for every rider around you.

See it.
Understand it.
Pass it back.

"We are disappointed that Harley-Davidson would quit American bagger racing and walk away from something that has unified so many American V-twin riders regardless of which brand of motorcycle they ride.

Rivalry, and the inherent possibility of losing, is what makes competition truly meaningful and what drives brands to rise up, innovate and prevail. Ultimately, it’s our industry and American V-twin riders that benefit most from this.

Our path remains unchanged. Indian Motorcycle remains committed to partnering with MotoAmerica in an effort to continue one of the greatest competitive spectacles in V-Twin Motorcycling; pure competition where the only guaranteed winners are the fans and V-twin riders." - Mike Kennedy

ARTICLE XIII – NATIONAL VFW RIDERS GROUP Sec. 1301.txt

Plain Text

so here is the new bylaws published in the new 2027 bylaws for the vfw help me understand what happens to old post and district ridrs group now that this is published.
Here’s the clear, Judge‑Advocate‑level answer you’re looking for, grounded directly in the new Article XIII you uploaded.

What happens to old Post‑level and District‑level Riders Groups now that the 2027 National Riders Bylaws are published?
Short answer:
They no longer exist as independent “Riders Groups.”
They must either re‑charter as official VFW Riders Group Chapters under Article XIII or cease functioning as Riders entities.

This isn’t a rumor or interpretation — it’s baked directly into the structure of Article XIII.

1. The new bylaws eliminate the old “Post Riders Group” and “District Riders Group” model
The new Article XIII establishes only two legitimate units of the Riders Group:

A. Post‑affiliated Chapters
“Chapters may be formed and chartered in accordance with the National Bylaws… Each chapter shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the Post with which it is affiliated.”

B. Department Chapters
“Department Chapters may be formed by a vote of the Department Convention.”

There is no provision anywhere for District Riders Groups.
There is no provision for Post Riders Groups that operate without a National Riders Group charter.

Therefore:
Any Riders entity that is not a chartered Chapter under Article XIII is now out of compliance and must either reorganize or dissolve.

2. Old Post Riders Groups must re‑charter or discontinue
Under the new structure, a Post Riders Group is not automatically a Chapter. It must:

Have at least 8 members in good standing.

Receive 2/3 Post approval after proper written notice.

Apply for a National Riders Group charter.

Operate under National Riders Group Bylaws and Ritual, not local bylaws.

If they do not do this, they are not recognized under Article XIII.

This is reinforced by the suspension/discontinuance section:

“The Commander‑in‑Chief may direct… cancellation of the charter of any subordinate chapter… when conduct… may be detrimental…”

If a Post Riders Group never had a charter, it has no legal standing under the new system.

3. District Riders Groups are completely eliminated
The new bylaws never mention District Riders Groups except indirectly in the jurisdiction chain.

The only recognized units are:

Post Chapters

Department Chapters

National Riders Group

Districts have no authority to create or maintain Riders Groups anymore.

This means:

All District Riders Groups must:
Cease functioning, OR

Fold into the Department Chapter, OR

Assist Posts in forming official Chapters.

They cannot continue as “District Riders Groups” because that structure no longer exists in the bylaws.

4. Department Riders Groups must convert into Department Chapters
If Wisconsin had a “Department Riders Group,” it must now become a Department Chapter formed by:

A vote of the Department Convention, and

Operating under National Riders Group Bylaws and Ritual.

The new Article XIII explicitly defines Department Chapters and their authority:

“Each Department Unit… shall be governed by… the Department Convention, Council of Administration, and Commander…”

This replaces any previous Department Riders Group structure.

5. Property, records, and authority all transfer under the new rules
If an old Riders Group (Post or District) is dissolved or loses its charter:

“All official records, money and other property shall be surrendered…”

This means:

Old Riders Groups cannot keep their own treasury.

All assets must transfer according to National Riders Group rules.

No assets may ever be distributed to individual members.

6. The practical reality in Wisconsin
Here’s what this means for your state:

A. Every Post Riders Group must re‑charter as a Chapter
If they don’t, they are no longer recognized.

B. The old District 7 Riders Group is gone
It must dissolve or integrate into the Department Chapter.

C. The Department Riders Group must become the official Department Chapter
Formed by Department Convention vote.

D. All future authority flows through National → Department → Post Chapters
Not Districts.
