We are thrilled with your response to our posts about table lamps and pillows! We are still getting table lamps and more new pillows are coming in, too! Thanks to Christ Lutheran Church for doing a pillow drive this month.

Remember, we need those - and SO much more - year-round. We've been looking at Prime Days and Walmart deals. If you'd like to purchase anything at Amazon, the Fire 8 tablets are on sale for $80. And a good deal at Walmart is this vacuum (see below). We can use multiples of both!

We can also use gently used clean vacuums (of any kind). So if you're replacing yours during Prime Days, consider us for your old one! Same for TVs and everything else we need!!!

When I go to bed tonight, I will lay my head on a pillow. When our clients move into their places, they typically have almost nothing. They rarely have pillows. I figure that until we can help them, they might use some clothing as a pillow.

Last year, we gave out over 1,000 new pillows. We bought some. Churches did drives. People (maybe you!) bought them for us. Right now, we have almost none left, and after we pull for the new families this week, we will have none. (In fact, I just ordered some to be sure we can get through Saturday.) The photos are of three boxes that are typically full but are now empty.

Pillows are on sale now at Kohl's for $3.99 with their 20% off offer. And if you spend $50 or more, it's another $10 off. Please consider purchasing some — and/or if you have Kohl's Cash you aren't going to use, please email it to us. We can use that anytime for items we need.

Who loves to thrift? Or have any lamps you don't need? We are SUPER low on table lamps (and can always take floor lamps, too). The photo here is from a few months ago when we had more than we do now (which is NONE). We need for several families we plan to deliver to tomorrow (Sat). Note that anything we need, we can take year-round, as much as anyone has! We buy a lot of items when we need them, but table lamps are not within our budget.

Did you know that most apartments do not have overhead lighting? (at least those our clients move into!) A volunteer delivered to a client in the evening... the mom had to go into a closet where there was one of those tiny lights on the wall to change her baby.

If you order some for us, please get queen size. We give out — just guessing because we don't have time to stop and count! — about 375 queen mattresses with bedding a year. (And we buy most of those mattresses, too!! Plus more... any donations are greatly appreciated.)

1,030 — that's how many pillows we distributed last year, and we have more furniture families this year, so that number will go up for sure!

We've had some wonderful groups (Girl Scouts and others), churches and individuals purchase pillows or hold pillow drives for us over the years. We could really use another group (or two or three!) to step up and help us now.

"Now our home is looking like a home."

We have been super busy!! We are seeking more gently used mattresses, box springs (really need queen), and essential furniture. What we can take at the time depends on current inventory and client needs. Photo below is an older one - wanted to add for attention. We have 10 furniture clients right now so a lot will be going out the door over the next week. We are picky about what we take for our families... we want to maintain their dignity.

(and always need gently used kitchen/bed/bath items!!)

We could also use more volunteers to help with pick up and delivery of furniture, mainly on Saturdays. Those with trucks and those who just want to help out, even if you aren't strong... you can help coordinate on the road or move smaller items. Or, if you prefer, you can volunteer at our other location where we pull household items and sort donations, among other tasks.

If you emailed us over the last few days and did not get a reply, please resend your email. We were hacked today (Monday) around noon. Oddly those lovely folks deleted one year of emails out of our inbox. No way to recover.
If you receive an email from us that looks suspicious, please let us know. Unsure if they cloned what they needed to send things out from us.

Donation drive today (Sat)! As always... from 10 to 1. If you haven't "summer cleaned" yet, consider donating gently used household items for our families! Super low on queen/full comforters and queen sheets. Pots and pans. Silverware. We help, on average, 7 families per week so that's a lot of mattresses, furniture and so much more. Yes, we list most needed, but we need just about everything that we offer all the time! Feel free to check in to ask about the latest and greatest, especially if you plan to shop. (oh, and we have six other programs so lots always going on!)

(update - we might be ok for today, not sure quite yet!) Today, Aug 15, we most likely will need some volunteers to deliver to clients so if you have some time between 11:30 and 2:30, let us know via email! That is the best way to reach us especially on a Saturday when getting back to Facebook is not always top of mind. If you can't help today, but may want to another Saturday, we'd love to add you to our list.

(last minute request) Twelve furniture clients this week! Whew. Is anyone available tomorrow, Sat 8/8, to volunteer? Either with furniture delivery or at our other location, where we will be pulling household items, working on birthdays, and other tasks. If interested, please email [email protected]. (or, if you can't volunteer tomorrow but would like to help another time, email us and we'll send details)

We are running low on furniture due to all of these clients so do let us know if you have gently used to donate. Or, if you want to make a financial donation toward mattresses or furniture - or household items - that we have to buy all the time, we would welcome that.
