On in 1914, the Marblehead Equal Suffrage League re-formed.
Massachusetts men would vote in 1915 on whether to grant suffrage to women in the state, and Marblehead’s women got together to rally their husbands, brothers, and sons.

During the campaign, the suffragists sold this hand fan to raise money. It featured clever slogans on the front and a map of America on the back, with the states that had granted suffrage colored blue. New England was a sea of white.

Only 36% of Massachusetts men voted in favor of suffrage that year, but women fought on and tasted the fruits of their labor on this day in 1920.
