Trying to figure out your next read? We've got something for you!

There Is No Place for Us: Working and Homeless in America by Brian Goldstone is a Pulitzer Prize-winning book that follows five Atlanta families as they navigate skyrocketing rent, impossible choices, and the emotional toll of trying to survive in a system that increasingly treats housing as a luxury instead of a necessity. It’s eye-opening, often infuriating, but also deeply human and extremely important.

And we're hosting a book discussion on Tuesday, June 9th at 5:30pm to dive deeper into the book!

If you want to join in the conversation, you’ve got about 10 days to read it, but fortunately this is one of those books where you’ll say “just one more chapter” and suddenly it’s midnight and you’ve emotionally bonded with five families.

Did you know we can pick up your furniture donations?🚛

If you have gently-used furniture you’re ready to part with, our team can come to you. We offer indoor pickups for a small $35 fee, or completely free pickup if you’re able to place items outside or in your garage. Pickups must be within a 25-mile radius of our Maplewood warehouse.

The best part? Your donated furniture goes directly to under-served families in our community looking for a fresh start!

Once again, thank you to everyone who donates to HSH. Because of you, clients don’t just receive the essentials they need, they get to choose. They get to walk in to our warehouse and pick pieces that they love and create their own sense of home.

Dining sets are one of the furniture items we receive the least, since many families only have one table and chair set in their home. But they’re often the pieces that create the most stability and connection. A place to share meals, help with homework, gather for game nights, and spend time together at the end of the day.

If you have a dining table or chairs you no longer need, help create some connection and comfort for families in need by donating.

You can schedule a furniture pickup at homesweethomestl.org/pickup-request

One of our longtime volunteers, Maria, recently brought her grandsons David and Nathan in to volunteer with us, and we loved having them!

After a tour and learning more about our mission, they jumped right into helping with intake. Their favorite part was working with the rugs. As you can see in the photos, they came up with a very innovative way to “measure” them🤣

We’re so grateful to Maria for sharing her time with us, and it was wonderful to see David and Nathan get hands-on experience and learn what giving back looks like in action.

Something special about Home Sweet Home is that we accept donated art and decor, giving the families we serve the chance to choose pieces that make their houses feel like home. Art can brighten a space, spark creativity, and, most importantly, create a sense of belonging.

Have art or other household items to donate? You can drop off at 10 Sunnen Drive, Suite 100, Maplewood, MO 63143 on weekdays between 9am and 2pm or the first Saturday of the month between 9am and noon.

Here’s a look at just some of the items a family picked out.

It's amazing to think about how each piece came from different homes all across St. Louis. People who generously decided to pass something along to those who need it more. And now they’re all coming together to bring comfort and joy to someone rebuilding their life
