The world is coming to Kansas City. 🌎

As Kansas City gets ready to host teams from around the globe this summer, we are celebrating the countries visiting our region and the places where The Nature Conservancy is working every day to protect nature for people and wildlife.

Argentina and Ecuador are two of the seven nations playing at at Arrowhead Stadium this summer, and they are also places where The Nature Conservancy works alongside communities to protect nature for people and wildlife.

From Patagonia’s grasslands to the Amazon and Andes, TNC is working across South America to protect some of the most important landscapes on Earth. Right here in Missouri, we are part of that same global effort.

Happy National Prairie Day! 🌾

At Dunn Ranch Prairie in northern Missouri, the landscape comes alive with sweeping grasses, vibrant wildflowers, and one of conservation’s greatest comeback stories: bison. 🦬

Once nearly gone from this region, bison are back on the prairie where they belong, playing a vital role in restoring and maintaining this incredible ecosystem. Their grazing patterns help create the diverse habitat that prairie plants and wildlife depend on.

Today, we’re celebrating the beauty, resilience, and importance of Missouri’s prairies. Learn more: https://nature.ly/4uUZhm3

June 2 is National Mississippi River Day!

Traversing 31 states, the Mississippi River and its tributaries nourish crops, transport goods, provide recreation and sustain robust fisheries. The river system brings food, fresh water, jobs and economic security to millions of Americans.

That’s why The Nature Conservancy takes a system wide approach to restoring the Mississippi River. Learn more at: https://nature.ly/4fgm3zT

This spring, our Fire & Stewardship team partnered with U.S. Forest Service - Mark Twain National Forest to complete a prescribed burn at Grasshopper Hollow Fen in Reynolds County.

Grasshopper Hollow is part of the largest non-glaciated fen system in the world and provides vital habitat for rare species like the endangered Hine’s emerald dragonfly. With 15 distinct fen communities, this special place is shaped by water, creating wet, marsh-like conditions where a wide variety of plants and wildlife thrive. Prescribed fire is an important tool to keep these ecosystems healthy by supporting native species and maintaining the natural balance of the fen.

Happy World Fish Migration Day!

Healthy, connected streams are critical for fish like the Niangua darter. Found in just a handful of Ozark streams, the Niangua darter is a powerful symbol of stream health. Barriers like low-water crossings once cut these fish off from critical habitat, but by replacing them with bridges, conservation partners have helped the species rebound across the watershed.

Read the full story to see how reconnecting these streams is making a difference.
