Honored to Help Preserve the Legacy of Ernest McDuffey — 95 Years of Remembrance and Justice

I am filled with joy, gratitude, and humility to have had the privilege of working on this important social justice and remembrance initiative honoring Ernest McDuffey.

As a newer leader serving as Chair of the Minneapolis NAACP Education Committee and as a Certified Human Rights Consultant, this opportunity carries deep meaning for me. I am profoundly grateful to the President of the Minneapolis NAACP for entrusting me with the responsibility of contributing to this historic effort.

Ernest McDuffey, a Black man working at a garage in Anoka, survived an attempted lynching at the Anoka city jail on September 5, 1931. Ninety-five years later, we are coming together to ensure that his story is remembered and that future generations understand how racial injustice and violence shaped the experiences of Black Minnesotans.

I am especially grateful to Minnesotans for Racial Justice, the City of Anoka Human Rights Commission, community leaders, advocates, and everyone who has worked together to bring this history into the public consciousness. I am also grateful for the Minnesota Senate’s recognition of September 5, 2026, as a day to honor the memory of Ernest McDuffey, and for the City of Anoka’s proclamation of Remembrance Day.

This is more than remembering history. It is about restoring humanity, educating our communities, confronting injustice, and creating a better future for the next generation.

I remain deeply honored by the trust placed in my leadership. As a human rights advocate, I believe remembering the past is essential to building a future where the dignity and humanity of every person are protected.

We remember Ernest McDuffey. We honor his humanity. We educate the next generation. And together, we continue the work toward justice.

At a time when many of our young people are facing hardships, uncertainty, loneliness, low self-esteem, and questions about their future, mentorship, friendship, leadership, and a sense of belonging can make a real difference.

As Charter President of the Rotary Club of I-94 Inclusive, I wanted to create another pathway for young people to connect with caring leaders and with one another. I am incredibly proud that we have chartered the Rotaract Club of Diaspora Professionals of District 5950, Minnesota, USA.

This Rotaract Club is here to serve young professionals from all backgrounds who are looking for genuine support, mentorship, friendship, leadership development, community service, and opportunities to grow.

Violence affects every community, regardless of race, religion, political affiliation, or neighborhood. If you are a community member, advocate, parent, youth, educator, faith leader, law enforcement professional, or simply someone who wants to help reduce gun violence, I invite you to join me in building solutions.

I am bringing together people who are committed to creating safer cities, counties, and communities through a nonpartisan, nonreligious, and community-driven initiative focused on collaboration, prevention, and lasting impact.
