Kelly, a 4th grader in DFW and Mansfield Pickle Princess, is competing for the opportunity to be featured in the Ranger Rick Magazine as the 2026 Junior Ranger. This nation-wide contest is sponsored by the National Wildlife Federation, which is one America's oldest and largest conservation organizations. Founded in 1936, this organization works to increase fish and wildlife populations, promote sustainable public land use, and address climate change through policy advocacy, education, and community-driven field projects.
Kelly grew up exploring DFW’s parks and natural spaces - fishing the pond in Chisholm Park, taking nature walks Oliver Nature Park and Rose Park, and canvassing the creek beds within River Legacy Park for tadpoles and lizards. She has helped her family transform their front yard into a pollinator-friendly paradise using native plants to better support local wildlife. In a recent podcast, she highlighted the importance of focusing on the plants when trying to increase biodiversity in neighborhoods because where the plants are the bugs (and everything that eats them) will follow.
