Join the community for Fight Writer’s Block Fest! We’re applauding the accomplishments of our young artists, and ensuring every young writer finds the words they need to write the world.

🌳 Think of Uptown Stories summer like camp! Each workshop meets for 1 week each daily, July-August and provides our students with the space to explore the craft of writing, engage their imaginations, and connect with a community of writers. In Advanced Fiction this week we welcomed special guest, , a novelist, poet, performer, and teacher! 😁

The focus of the day was to help our students think about what kind of author or artist they are. For this activity, we put pen to paper, and the only rule was you couldn’t stop writing. The writing flow changed with a different prompt every two minutes! Feeling invigorated, every writer shared a bit of what they wrote.

The next step of our journey with Ellen was working on a life timeline, listing events from our lives and cultural/political/world events.

Before leaving, Ellen shared some words of wisdom and answered questions about what it’s like to be a working author.
