Eupraxia: Music and Arts Collective

Eupraxia: Music and Arts Collective we make music and art collectively. Eupraxia is an organization created and administered by a team of musicians trained in the western classical tradition.

The guiding principle of Eupraxia is the application of artistic training and knowledge toward positive social action. Musical performance is central to Eupraxia efforts; in addition, the team has a diverse array of talents outside of classical performance practice. Each member has a strong conviction to be compassionate and conscientious local and global citizens. This drives the creation and rea

lization of each project. CURRENT PROJECTS, PROGRAMS, and PRODUCTIONS

FEATURE PROGRAMMING
Eupraxia explores themes, connections, and the stories behind the music with our feature programming. We present series of performances, lectures, and other events that focus on specific composers, geographical areas, and contextual themes. In 2012-2012, Expraxia will present a series focusing on the music of Felix Mendelssohn and Ernest Bloch. MOONDOG RISING is an ongoing exploration of the life and music of Louis Hardin (1916-1999). Known by many as ‘the Viking of 6th Avenue’, Moondog was a blind composer/poet/street musician/inventor who was a striking presence midtown during the 1950s and 60s. Eupraxia produced the first festival of Moondog's work in over 40 years in New York in 2007. Eupraxia members perform madrigal marathons, chamber music, and have collaborated with 'An Exciting Event' in the production and performances of their ‘Moondog Madrigal Puppet Show’. OUTREACH, ENGAGEMENT, EDUCATION
Eupraxia delivers music to the ill, elderly, and isolated. Over the past ten years our musicians have performed hundreds of chamber music concerts in homes, hospitals, and other facilities. Our programs are uniquely tailored for the listener(s). Music services can be for one or one hundred, for young or old, with repertoire ranging from Bach to Broadway and occur throughout the year. Our Kol Nidre Project occurs every fall during the Jewish High Holidays. Pairs of cellists visit the ill and homebound to play a program featuring Kol Nidre, a sacred musical prayer. Eupraxia’s education initiatives have included masterclasses, school visits, collaborations with arts educators, adult classes, and mentoring. In our addition to our roster of professional musicians, we often invite amateurs and gifted students to participate in our concerts and programs. EUPRAXIA PRODUCTIONS
Eupraxia engages in unique collaborations to produce multi-media events that fall largely outside the classical music realm. “Moondog Howl” is an upcoming production with ‘Opera Cowboy’ that will explore the lives and creative masterworks of New York icons, Louis “Moondog” Hardin and poet Allen Ginsberg.
