Malden Warming Center A collaborative service providing a safe warm place for adult individuals experiencing homelessness in winter. Contact us for daily operating hours.

Our season runs December 1st through March 31st every year. We open every day with our hours between 7 p.m - 7:30 a.m.

We present reason #1 to buy tickets: Keep the heat on.

Heat is one of our most essential costs. Prices keep rising, and this may be our most expensive year yet. Your ticket helps keep the warming center warm. Ticket sales help fund our operational costs, including the very thing that makes up a warming center: warmth.

Reason #2 to buy tickets: WildFire! 🔥

Since starting to get the word out about this year's Fall Celebration, we've heard the same question over and over again: How'd you guys get WildFire?

The volunteers who already knew WildFire weren't surprised by the question. But for the rest of us who weren't familiar with them yet, the frequency of the question left us thinking... Woah. These guys are a big deal.

There are 3 days left to get your Fall Celebration tickets. Each day until the Oct 14 deadline, we'll post one reason why we hope you'll join us.

Reason #3: Fund Food.

Many people know we serve a hot nutritious meal every night, and much of it is donated. What fewer people know is that we also have snacks available all night, breakfast in the morning, AND a sandwich for each guest to take for lunch. Not every single item can be donated, and financial support fills in the gaps.

There are 4 days left to get your Fall Celebration tickets. Each day until the Oct 14 deadline, we'll post one reason why we hope you'll join us.

Reason #4: Fund Laundry.

Some of you remember our volunteer “laundry warriors” hauling bags of blankets to the laundromat every morning. Even with that volunteer power, washing two blankets for 25 guests was expensive! We’ve since upgraded to a more efficient system, but it still makes up a significant portion of our laundry budget. And it’s worth it. Clean blankets every night keep the space clean and bug-free, and every guest gets something fresh and warm to sleep under. The Fall Celebration helps cover the basic operation costs of running the season, and this one is especially essential.

Friends: the last day to buy Fall Celebration tickets is October 14! Over these final 5 days before sales close, we’ll share one reason per day why this night matters so much to us - and why we think you should join us.

Reason #5: Fund Uber rides

It used to be that once we hit capacity, that was it. I remember one night an older man came trudging through the snow in the middle of the night. His fingers were cold to the touch. We were able to warm him up, get him something to eat, and give him warm clothes to change into. But we had a he couldn’t stay the night. Turning him away was heartbreaking. Now, thanks in part to funding from the Fall Celebration, we don’t have to send anyone back into the cold. When we’re full, we get guests an Uber to another warming center or shelter. It might genuinely be a life-saving service.

Friends! We are over 25% of the way to meeting our goal! If you can't buy a ticket this year, sharing this post goes a long way in getting the word out.

You probably already know that the Warming Center provides a warm, safe place every night in the winter for people who might otherwise be sleeping outside. But did you know that guests area also provided:

- A warm, nutritious, high-quality dinner, plus breakfast AND a to-go lunch for the next day
- Coats, boots, gloves, hats, warm clothing
- Ubers to other Warming Centers when we are full
- Recovery resources via Malden Cares recovery coaches stationed at the Center 7 nights per week
- Medical screening and care via partnerships with Melrose-Wakefield and MGB

We are privileged and honored to have reached our ninth season, still volunteer run and operated. We continue to rely on grants and grassroots community support, and our Fall Celebration fundraiser (featuring WildFire Band !!!!!!!!) is an important part of funding our upcoming season.

Yesterday, future Eagle Scout Forrester Blankenship led a team of scouts in repainting in the main room, the first project towards making our space more welcoming to guests. For anyone worried about the future: this team of young people was efficient, diligent, and delightful. We are in good hands.

And of course, a huge shout out to our wonderful youth coordinator K.C. Skeldon for coordinating with Forrester and being present for these projects!

Today three wonderful volunteers braved the pouring rain at the Melrose Victorian Fair. They spread the word about the upcoming training sessions and our Oct 23 Fall Celebration, and got to chat with lots of our Melrose neighbors. Several people who saw the Fall Celebration flyer gasped and asked "how did you get WildFire !? Honestly, we don't know - but we're real glad we did!

The volunteers also set up a display of the chairs on which guests spend the night, a full backpack representing the personal belongings guests carry around all day, and a sign stating "imagine having no place to stay in weather like this." It was a good reminder of why we do what we do.

Huge shout out to volunteer extraordinaires Eileen Hamblin, Kim Maher, and Karen Schorfheide-Ray for making the best of the rainy weather, and for the Melrose Chamber of Commerce for hosting and adapting to the weather so seamlessly!

Have you been wanting to get involved with the Warming Center? Now's your chance! The 2026 training days are here.

To become a volunteer, you'll choose one session to attend (no need to RSVP, just show up!). Then, depending on the role you're interested in, you may you may come back to shadow a volunteer for more active training.

We can't wait to see you there!
