Sometimes, the next step in your career starts with simply showing up.

The MassHire Boston ABCD Multi-Industry Job Fair brought job seekers and employers together on August 19 in Roxbury.

Job fairs like this are more than a place to look for open positions. They’re an opportunity to:

Meet employers face-to-face
Explore career opportunities across industries
Build your professional network
Ask questions and learn what employers are looking for
Take the next step toward your career goals

At Tailored for Success, we know that feeling prepared can make a real difference when you walk into a room full of opportunities. Whether it’s finding the right interview outfit, strengthening your resume, or building confidence, every step of preparation matters.

Your next opportunity could begin with one conversation. Keep showing up, keep connecting, and keep moving forward.

Your career is built on more than the work you do. It’s also built on the people you meet along the way.

One piece of advice that can make a real difference early in your career: start building your network now.

Attend the events. Introduce yourself. Talk to people outside your immediate circle. Stay connected with former coworkers and be intentional about maintaining positive relationships.

You never know when someone you meet today might become a mentor, a colleague, a referral, or the person who opens a door you didn’t even know existed.

And remember: networking isn’t just about what others can do for you. It’s about building genuine, professional relationships and being someone others are glad to know.

At Tailored for Success, we believe career readiness goes beyond the resume. Your relationships, confidence, and professional presence matter, too.

Start where you are. Meet someone new. Keep the connection going. Your future network is being built one conversation at a time.

Are you spending too much time trying to figure out your personal brand?

For people starting their careers today, personal branding can feel like something you need to figure out right away.

But there’s another perspective worth considering:

Focus on getting really good at what you do.

The work you do can become what people know you for and that can build your brand.

Here is why getting good at what you do may matter more than trying to build your personal brand.

What are you working to get really good at?

If you’re graduating this year and wondering where to begin with your personal brand, here’s a different perspective:

Instead of starting by asking, “How do I build my personal brand?” start by asking, “How can I become really good at what I do?”

As Liz shares in this video, being good at your work can speak more strongly than a personal brand you’re trying to create.

Your skills, your work, your reliability, and the way you show up all become part of how people remember you.

Personal branding isn’t only about what you say about yourself. It can also grow from the work you consistently do well.

Whether you’re a graduating student, starting your first job, changing careers, or building your professional identity, focus on developing your skills and doing meaningful work.

Your work can become part of your brand.

What would you tell someone just starting their career about personal branding? Share your advice in the comments.

What makes an outfit feel put together?

Look at the relationship between the pieces.

A structured blazer can bring definition to a more relaxed shirt and trousers. A defined waist can give shape to a pleated dress. Small details, like a necklace or a pattern, can add personality without overwhelming the overall look.

These are simple styling principles you can use when choosing what to wear for an interview, your first day, or any moment when you want your clothing to support how you show up.

At Tailored for Success, our Career Closet helps job seekers find professional clothing as they prepare for their next opportunity.
