Dr. Ruth Mitchell, IPPNW Board chair, recently returned from two weeks in Gaza, supporting patients with critical and complex injuries. During the trip she worked at two hospitals, Shuhada al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balah, in the middle of Gaza, and al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City.

In interviews since her return she has shared her experience from hospitals in Gaza, celebrating, witnessing, and acknowledging the resilience of Palestinian healthcare professionals.

IPPNW delegates joined SB64 (the 64th session of the Subsidiary Body for the UN Climate Change Conference, often referred to as COP) last week to amplify the health community in pushing for climate justice, and to talk about the deep interconnections between the climate crisis, nuclear weapons, militarization, and public health.

🕊Our delegates attended and supported the Feminists Against Militarism action, where our partners at Peace Boat amplified the call to end militarism for climate justice.
⚠We pushed back on the narrative that nuclear energy is a healthy and safe solution to the climate crisis. Throughout the conference our delegates spread the message: “Don’t nuke the climate!”
🌱Dr. Angelika Claussen spoke at a side event on Peace and Climate Justice, which we co-hosted, on the importance of moving beyond silos in our work addressing the two existential threats of nuclear weapons and climate.

The nuclear-armed states spent 119 billion dollars on nuclear weapons in 2025. This is a 19% increase from last year. This wasted money could be better spent to address any number of humanitarian or health challenges, or to build real national or global security. Continued exorbitant nuclear weapons spending erodes global health and peace.
