If you had 3.6 Trillion Dollars💸, would you build a missile defense system that leaves over 75 million Americans at risk? Or would you rather fund nearly 2.7 million nurses 🩺for 10 years? What makes you feel more safe?

Read the report by IPPNW, Physicians for Social Responsibility, and Back from the Brink to learn about the false promise that is the "Golden Dome" and the risks and costs it places on the United States. (Spoiler alert: it is a Golden Scam)

Last week, IPPNW participated in the 79th World Health Assembly ⚕. Led by IPPNW's Geneva Liaison Office (GLO), a delegation of health professionals and medical students brought the message of peace, disarmament, and sustainability to the world's leading health body. Here are just a few, of many, ways our delegation engaged:

🩺 Together with Switzerland and WFPHA, IPPNW hosted a side event, "Peace and Health: Public Health's Role", where speakers challenged the notion that war is solely a political consequence, framing violent conflict as a preventable determinant of ill health requiring education and awareness.
🏥Inside the WHO, IPPNW member Andy Haines presented on the climate impacts of nuclear war, citing studies from the British Medical Journal and The Lancet to support the Global Peace and Health Initiative (GPHI) in protecting health resources during crises.
👩‍⚕️IPPNW Board Member Stella Ziegler spoke at an event at MSF on the intersection of peace, health, and climate, emphasizing how younger health professionals are deeply engaged. She highlighted that for frontline workers, maintaining silence in the face of observed suffering can be more dangerous than speaking out.

The next session of our Global Classroom is around the corner on 1 June, at 1pm GMT!

We'll be joined by Dr. Åsa Lindström, Vice Chair of Swedish Physicians Against Nuclear Weapons and emergency medicine physician to answer the question: Is any medical community able to respond to a single nuclear detonation?

You don't want to miss this one! We'll build on past modules and dive into the medical communities inability to respond, with a focus on blast and burns, including availability of burn beds.

The Golden Dome is a false promise which would leave tens of millions of Americans vulnerable to nuclear attack, stimulate a global arms race, and cost trillions of dollars.

Dr. Laura Grego with the Union of Concerned Scientists, Senator Ed Markey, Representative Jim McGovern, and Dr. Ira Helfand spoke in DC last week on the dangers and misconceptions of strategic missile defense.

Later today, the four week long Review Conference to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty will come to a close. By the end of the day, we will find out if States will agree on an outcome document, and if that language meets the needs of the moment.

While we wait, let’s take a look back on just some of IPPNW's engagement in this RevCon to make sure humanitarian calls for disarmament are at the center of the conversation:

🗣Magritte Gordaneer from PSR delivered IPPNW's statement to the floor of the Conference, find it on our blog
🇳🇴Maja Fjellvær Thompson from IPPNW Norway presented at an ICAN side event on Norway's rapidly evolving policies on nuclear weapons
🇸🇪Josefin Lind from SLMK presented at a pre-NPT conference on "Sweden's Slippery Slope", find her remarks on our blog
🤝A youth delegation of IPPNW leaders met with Nagasaki & Hiroshima Peace Messengers
💡Molly McGinty from IPPNW's Central Office presented at a side event hosted by BASIC on medical student and youth perspectives on the NPT
🌱Josefin Lind and Anduin DeVos from IPPNW’s Central office presented at a side event by NAPF and SGI on hope and the humanitarian lens of disarmament
⚕and many more discussions, emails, and publications, and meetings with states, civil society, and one another not pictured.

Stay tuned for more on the outcome and what it means for disarmament (⚠️spoiler: we're not going to give up on our calls for the urgent elimination of these disastrous weapons).

See our full recommendations to the states to uphold international humanitarian law and more remarks and reports from us at the RevCon on our blog at the link in our bio.

At the 1995 NPT Review Conference, States committed to the establishment of a nuclear weapons free zone in the Middle East. IPPNW calls on states to adhere to this 30 year old commitment and implement a weapons of mass destruction free zone in the Middle East.

Disagreement over this commitment has prevented states from reaching consensus in the past, and continues as a point of contention at the 2026 conference. Current crises in the Middle East involving the region's only nuclear power, Israel, and the U.S., an NPT nuclear weapon state, during this review cycle serve as a stark reminder of the threats to health and security that nuclear weapons bring to a region.

All NPT states must reaffirm their commitment to implementing a nuclear weapons free zone in the Middle East.

Take a look back at our page to see the rest of IPPNW's recommendations at the NPT shared by our wonderful delegates!
