Last week, IPPNW participated in the 79th World Health Assembly ⚕. Led by IPPNW's Geneva Liaison Office (GLO), a delegation of health professionals and medical students brought the message of peace, disarmament, and sustainability to the world's leading health body. Here are just a few, of many, ways our delegation engaged:
🩺 Together with Switzerland and WFPHA, IPPNW hosted a side event, "Peace and Health: Public Health's Role", where speakers challenged the notion that war is solely a political consequence, framing violent conflict as a preventable determinant of ill health requiring education and awareness.
🏥Inside the WHO, IPPNW member Andy Haines presented on the climate impacts of nuclear war, citing studies from the British Medical Journal and The Lancet to support the Global Peace and Health Initiative (GPHI) in protecting health resources during crises.
👩⚕️IPPNW Board Member Stella Ziegler spoke at an event at MSF on the intersection of peace, health, and climate, emphasizing how younger health professionals are deeply engaged. She highlighted that for frontline workers, maintaining silence in the face of observed suffering can be more dangerous than speaking out.
