Today, on the final day of the to the , Dr. Carlos Umaña spoke on behalf of IPPNW in support of the establishment of a Scientific Advisory Panel. Dr. Umaña states, “evidence is the foundation of the TPNW - legitimizing the urgent need for nuclear disarmament through evidence must be prioritized”. We are grateful to the states parties for establishing a Scientific Advisory Group, which will include gender balance & geographical distribution.

We're just over two weeks away from the landmark first Meeting of States Parties to the and related civil society events! On 18-19 June 2022, ICAN’s two day Nuclear Ban Forum in Vienna will bring together social change innovators, educators, and nuclear weapons experts from across the globe, and kick off a week of events to make the plan to end nuclear weapons now the ban is in place! The Forum will feature dozens of Campaigners, including IPPNW representatives Dr. Ira Helfand, immediate past Co-President; Victor Chelashow, International Student Representative; Dr. Carlos Umana, Co-President; Josefin Lind, Secretary General of Swedish Doctors Against Nuclear Arms; and Molly McGinty, Program Associate.

IPPNW Statement on Social Media

IPPNW uses and values social media platforms as avenues to disseminate science and evidence-based information on the health effects of nuclear weapons, armed violence and other critical health issues. We condemn the use of social media to spread disinformation that instigates hate, conflict and violence, and is harmful to individual and population health. We join with others calling for reforms of social media business models that prioritize profits over public health
