From our friends at the Center for LGBTQ & Gender Studies in Religion (CLGS):

Please join us ONLINE today at 1pm (Pacific Time) for At the Heart of the Church: Lessons from Transgender Catholics. This is our eighth CLGS Lavender Lunch of the academic year.

We will meet online at 1pm (Pacific Time) today; click here to join this event via Zoom, or go to: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83413371531?pwd=SyLHmFkkXgDZbkUSqFRVoh3d2x5xwj.1

Sponsored by the CLGS Catholic Roundtable, this Lavender Lunch panel brings together Trans Catholic leaders whose lives, faith, and courage are at the heart of the Church and are already shaping the Church’s future. Rather than rehearsing old debates, we look ahead—toward communities where Trans bodies are honored and help shape a Catholic tradition informed by their grace-filled lives.

Panelists will reflect on emerging theological visions, pastoral practices, and spiritual insights borne from Trans wisdom. Together, we explore how trans Catholics are not just included in the Church’s future, but essential to creating it. They are the heart of the Church.

Please join us!

DignityUSA, the world’s oldest organization of LGBTQ+ Catholics and supporters, says the Vatican Synod study group’s final report on “Emerging Doctrinal, Pastoral, and Ethical Issues” contains hopeful possibilities for LGBTQ+ people and families, but leaves many questions unanswered about how the ongoing work of engaging in dialogue and discernment called for by the document will occur.

“This document demonstrates a welcome humility and openness to learning from the People of God about their lives and faith journeys,” said Marianne Duddy-Burke, executive director of DignityUSA.

DignityUSA has been an active participant in Synod activities since the process began in 2021. From our earliest listening sessions, the issue of women’s lack of equality in our church has been a consistent concern. Therefore, we submitted comments and awaited with interest and hope the report of Working Group 5, the team charged with addressing this issue.

Read our statement on the results of this Working Group on our site:

The issue of women’s lack of equality in our church has been a consistent concern.
