Businesses and workers on Williamson Street are still feeling the financial and emotional impacts following the death of Corey Ruiz, as fundraising efforts launch to help those affected by weeks of closures.

MadWorC wants to support our community in a way that aligns with our values - specifically Cooperation & Integrity, Democracy & Transparency, and Justice. Our community has been directly impacted by the shooting of Corey Ruiz on Williamson Street on July 22nd. In an effort to offset the loss of wages due to the shooting, we have started the W***y Street Impacted Workers Fund.

Funds raised will go directly to employees impacted by lost wages in the immediate area of the shooting. Employees impacted by lost wages can apply for funds using the link found on the donation page. Impacted employees can apply for a maximum of $500 per round of funding. We hope to secure enough donations to have multiple rounds of funding. MadWorC will verify lost wages and disperse funds to individual employees.

Madison Worker Cooperatives (MadWorC) wants to support our community in a way that aligns with our values - specifically Cooperation & Integrity, Democracy & Transparency, and Justice. Our community has been directly impacted by the shooting of Corey Ruiz on Williamson Street on July 22nd. In solidarity with all affected by the shooting and in an effort to mitigate the financial impact on workers in the neighborhood, we have started the W***y Street Impacted Workers Fund.

Funds raised will go directly to employees impacted by lost wages in the immediate area of the shooting.

Guidelines

- Funds are for employees only - not available to owners.

- Fund is for employees in the immediately impacted area within a roughly one block radius of the shooting.

- There is a maximum of $500 per person per round of funding.
- Lost wages must be verified.

- Funds will be dispersed via check and must be mailed within the immediate Madison area or can be picked up at the Social Justice Center at 1202 Williamson Street.

- Funds will be dispersed on a first come first serve basis. Depending on funds available, we may do multiple rounds of funding for workers impacted by loss of wages. Funds will be available no sooner than August 15th.
