🎭🧩 Therapy doesn't always look like sitting in a chair and talking!

Today, in our Columbus office, one of our therapists brought extra fun to a play therapy session by dressing up, creating a welcoming and imaginative space for children to express themselves. Meanwhile, some of our teens enjoyed building with LEGOs while waiting for their sessions, connecting with peers, reducing stress, and engaging their creativity.

At Lighthouse for Families, we know that healing happens through connection, play, creativity, and relationships. Every activity is an opportunity to build trust, develop coping skills, and support emotional growth.

Su***de prevention touches every part of life – from families and schools to workplaces, faith communities, and health care systems. When people feel connected, valued, and supported, they are more likely to seek help. And when communities come together around a shared commitment to prevention, lives are saved.

It lives in the relationships we build, the support we offer, and the communities we create together. Its about...

💜Strengthening connections that protect people before a crisis.
💚Making sure everyone knows where to turn before they need it.
💜Building communities where people feel safe reaching out for help.
💚Supporting recovery and healing long after a crisis has ended.

🌟 Connecting with Our Community in Columbus! 🌟

Lighthouse for Families was honored to participate in the Mindfulness & Muffins event hosted by the Harris County Family Connection Collaborative last week in Hamilton, Georgia.

Our Columbus team enjoyed setting up a resource booth, sharing information about our trauma-informed counseling services, connecting with community partners, and discussing the importance of mental health and wellness for children, individuals, and families. Attendees also had the opportunity to learn grounding techniques and explore hands-on coping tools that support emotional well-being.
We are grateful for opportunities like these to build relationships, increase awareness of mental health resources, and support stronger, healthier communities.

Thank you to Harris County Family Connection and everyone who stopped by our booth. We look forward to continuing to serve and support families throughout the Columbus area and beyond! 💙

Lighthouse for Families and The Methodist Home were proud to host "The Narrow Line Between Confidentiality and Compliance: HIPAA, Records, Releases, Testimony, and AI," led by David Markwell. The training focused on ethical decision-making, HIPAA and HITECH compliance, documentation standards, confidentiality, testimony, and the growing impact of AI in mental health practice.

Mental health professionals from across Georgia came together in person and virtually to strengthen their knowledge, enhance clinical practice, and reaffirm their commitment to providing ethical, high-quality care to the individuals and families they serve. The day was filled with learning, collaboration, and meaningful discussions about navigating today's increasingly complex clinical landscape.

Thank you to everyone who attended and to David Markwell for sharing his expertise and insight. Events like these help ensure that our communities continue to receive services grounded in professionalism, integrity, and excellence.

🏫🎓Whether you're heading off to college for the first time or returning for another semester, this season can bring a mix of excitement, stress, uncertainty, and pressure. New schedules, academic demands, social changes, and being away from home can take a toll on your mental health.

Remember:

✅ It's okay to feel overwhelmed.
✅ It's okay to ask for help.
✅ Taking care of your mental health is just as important as taking care of your grades.

As you prepare for the school year, make time for self-care, establish healthy routines, stay connected with your support system, and don't hesitate to reach out if you're struggling.

College is a journey of growth—not perfection. Give yourself grace, celebrate small wins, and know that support is available every step of the way.

💙 If you or your college student could benefit from additional support, our team is here to help.

✨ Client & Family Voices | 2026 Client Satisfaction Survey ✨

At Lighthouse for Families, every child, youth, adult and family we serve has a unique story. We are honored to walk alongside them as they build confidence, learn healthy coping skills, strengthen relationships, and find hope through life's challenges.

This year's Client Satisfaction Survey reminded us why our work matters. Thank you to every client and family who took the time to share feedback. Your voices help us celebrate successes, identify opportunities for growth, and continue our mission of helping children, youth, and families grow, heal, and thrive. 💙

🩵 Connection. Collaboration. Community. 🩵

Lighthouse For Families was excited to host a table at the Bibb County Back to School Bash, providing essential school supplies and connecting with families throughout the day.

Beyond the supplies, we had meaningful conversations about the importance of mental health and the resources available to support children, families, and our community. Events like these create opportunities to build relationships, strengthen partnerships, and make a lasting impact.

A big thank you to the HOPE Foster Care Team (Kristi Lawler and Jessica Jones) for your outstanding support and for helping make this event such a success.

Together, we are helping ensure families have both the practical resources and emotional support they need to thrive.
