August is Black Philanthropy Month!

This year's theme is "Many Voices, One Movement," many of us giving, one shared purpose. That's exactly what the Central Georgia Empowerment Fund was built to do.

Through our collective giving, we pool our resources so that black-led and black-serving organizations across Central Georgia have the support need for the work they're doing.

This year's grant application launches on August 1st. The deadline to apply is Monday, August 31st at noon.

This week in Macon, girls are learning lifesaving skills.

Through hands-on CPR training and learning how to use an EpiPen, Girls Dig Deeper Initiative is equipping young women with skills they'll carry for life. Next time someone needs help, one of these girls will know exactly what to do.

This is the third-year Girls Dig Deeper has run this program, made possible through MVP: Macon Violence Prevention, which has directed more than $2.9 million through the Community Foundation into work like this across Macon-Bibb.

This is what it looks like when a town takes care of its own.

A fire took Mama D's Restaurant and Goggans Florist off Market Street months ago. Now, a $15,000 grant from the Barnesville Disaster Relief Fund is helping the Downtown Development Authority rebuild, storefront by storefront.

That's what community looks like.

Every Monday, kids arrive at the Junior Fire Academy in Perry nervous and unsure. By Friday, they don't want to leave.

"When a parent drops their child off and tells me how excited their kid was to come back the next day, that's what makes me feel good." — Fire Chief Ephraim Wheeler
City of Perry Fire & Emergency Services

A grant through CFCG helped make this year's camp possible. And Perry isn't the only community where CFCG supports the people who show up for everyone else. Funds in Macon, Barnesville, and Eatonton do the same work, in their own communities, year after year.
