Did you get the dog as a puppy or adult : Puppy, ex husband brought her home from a pet
store.
Has the dog had any formal training with a trainer : No
Good with kids : Yes, she doesn’t realize her size, so probably not small children. My son was 5 but respected her space. So we never had issues.
Good with strangers : yes once introductions are made.
Good with chickens/ farm animals? : Never been exposed to them. I’m not sure.
Good with dogs of all sizes and gender? :
She wasn’t exposed to other dogs other than 1 neighbor female German Shepard. She does not seem to like other dogs has showed signs of aggression.
What breeds has the dog been around and were they male or female? :
Male Great Dane (didn’t go well, she
growled and lunged)
Female German Sheppard (neighbor for years and playmate)
Good with cats? would not recommend.
What does the dog enjoy? : She enjoys walks, going on the beach, long car rides, just being wherever you are. Trying new treats. Just being a house dog laying around and watching tv.
What does the dog dislike? : Being separated by her owner. She shows signs of separation anxiety.
Crate trained? : Yes
house trained? : Yes
leash trained? : Yes
Doggy door trained? : Never had one
Does the dog know specific commands if so what commands? : She knows down, sit, working in stay, leave it, and heel. She definitely knows No! She’s sometimes goes potty on command.
Does the dog have any issues with health: No, but seems to be picky with food, she skips Meals. Doesn’t appear to be hungry.
Are vet records available? :
Moved from California military housing and had to leave a lot behind
Is there agression?
She seems-to not like other dogs or cats
Bites to people: None
Are there any triggers/ issues we need to monitor? She is hesitant to strangers, probably not good with dogs or cats. Preferably needs to be the only pet unfortunately.
She was in a 1 pet household for her whole life.
Food aggression? Respected her space and never tested. So I’m not sure!
Guard toys? No not that I’ve seen. Not really into toys.
Was the dog in an abusive situation and if so how? Verbally, physically, neglected?
Yes, quite a bit honestly, verbal and physical. I think this is why she is so
protective and guarded.
Has the dog been socialized in public
Yes, but not in large crowds. She is hesitant to strangers.
Food Allergies? No
Environmental Allergies? No
Does the dog enjoy car rides? She loves them!
Does the dog get car sick? No
Is there any anxiety if so what causes the anxiety:
She doesn’t like being separated from
you.
Where does the dog normally sleep:
In her doggie bed.

How long does the dog go between potty breaks:
Every 2-4 hours. She will let you know when she has to go out.

What food does the dog normally eat ? :
Purina large breed pro plan.

What are you sending with the dog:
She has a large metal dog kennel, 2 dog beds, 2 collars, 2 harness, a toy or 2, 2 dog bowls.

Do you have a fenced yard or walk the dog to potty:
I had a fenced in yard she went on frequent walks. When she is told to go potty, she often goes on
command.

Do you have steps and can the dog maneuver them:
She’s only lived in a single floor plan.
She needs reassurance around stairs to go up and down.

Why is the dog being rehomed?
I have left an abusive marriage and
moved my son and I back home with family, but my family is allergic to dogs (hives and hospitalization). I have tried to arrange other family friends to watch her but they have lots of pets and she has shown brief interactions of aggression and cannot be housed with them. I don’t have anyone to take her while I get settled and back on my feet post divorce. And this is my last option. As I cannot afford to keep her in hotels and she can’t currently be in the home with me. I don’t want to take her to a shelter, so I’m hoping a Great Dane rescue can help us and give her the care she deserves.

What do you feel would be a perfect home for the dog?

A single pet home, or with older children that are respectful of a pets space. Maybe a fenced in yard, as she is strong. But she does fine on walks.
That was our home situation. I suppose that is what she is used to and comfortable with, but maybe with experienced Great Dane trainers she could do better with more exposure.

Please keep the Potter family in your thoughts and prayers. They had to let their sweet gal Medusa go.

Medusa and her pal Hulk came to us back in 2020. They were used for breeding and were not in good shape when they arrived. Hulk was skin and bones , lived outside and had signs of an infection. Dusa was in much better shape but had been over bred. After taking hulk to the vet, we learned that he was far worse than we thought, he had cancer and it had spread. We had to let him go. 😭

Dusa was scheduled for an ultrasound because we didn’t know if she was pregnant. They didn’t find any pups so we had her spayed to get her ready for adoption. She was the sweetest gal.

The Potters followed her story from day one. 💗They met her and fell in love. She was adopted in December 2020 and has lived a very good life and was loved so much. She was Queen of her King sized bed💗 Medusa was spoiled for 6 whole years after being surrendered by a breeder. So thankful for this family.

Puppy yard shenanigans. Everyone is happy😍🐾

Ketch is having a good day🎉 some days he stays on the ground more than on his feet😫 when there is no inflammation he does great. The steroids are a temporary fix but it does improve his quality of life. With surgery, his life would be improved daily. Ketchups personality is shining today.

❤️ Gru’s personality is coming out too. He’s 100% goofball! He’s starting to learn how that big body works but still so clumsy 🤪

Candy wants a forever home😍 she doesn’t have any applications yet! She’s so sweet.

Sweet Candyland (Candy) is up for adoption. She doesn’t have accidents inside here at the rescue, she goes to the puppy yard to potty using a doggy door. She’s a Dane lab mix and under a year old. UTD on shots and spayed. She’s a love bug and a great rider. She would love to go to a home with an energetic playmate preferably a male dog. Shes a pup and definitely needs a fenced yard. She is black in color but due to malnutrition and sunbleeching her body has discolored dead fur.

We are over halfway there!! 🎉🎉🎉Our donation total including the fundraiser is $6408!!! We have 10 days left to reach our goal of $12,000 ( estimated cost)for Ketchup’s surgery. Thank you so much for everyone who has donated and shared Ketch’s story. This 10 month old pup is so loved!

Let's continue to make a difference! We have 23k followers and if each follower could spare $1-$5 we can reach our goal and get Ketchup walking. Please keep sharing‼️❤️

We're racing against time to raise the funds needed for Ketchup's spinal surgery in just 10 days when he will be admitted for surgery❤️❤️❤️.

Here's the cost update:
Ketchup's initial visit cost $300 at VA Tech, and the MRI on day 2 and spinal decompression surgery on day 3 is estimated at $12,000. We'll need to pay the initial visit costs and 75% of the surgery's high-end estimate ( $12k) when we take him in on June 29th, with the remainder due upon his pickup.

Ketchup's spinal cord compression is causing his legs to be limp and lack control, but with steroids, he's shown temporary improvement. However, surgery is the key to unlocking a lifetime of happiness and normalcy for this precious 10-month-old puppy.
