We wrapped up another amazing school year at The Rec on Thursday!

We celebrated our youth and volunteers, recognizing the unique ways each person contributes to our program with some pizza, popsicles, and time with families at the park as we reflected on a great year.

Thank you to our incredible volunteers and the amazing kids who make The Rec so special. We’ll be taking a short break through June and look forward to summer programs in July! ☀️❤️

The never ending journey of mechanical complexity on our various buses! It’s getting close to time for upgrades. Thankful for where these have taken us over the years! We’ve taken kids to Ocean City, MD, NewYork City, North Carolina, and have traveled back and forth across Virginia. But we’ve also had breakdowns, in different states, at different times, and more frequently as the days go! Our entire fleet was gifted to us, first ones by Bennett and Butler,INC, then the Moyers, Hokes, Atkins Auto Deals LLC, and they’ve ensured kids from all over the county are picked up, delivered home, and have opportunity to travel and experience new environments! How’d that happened? Donors saw the need, and just like that it was met! Let’s do it again www.LivingLegacyLurayVA.org

Let’s take a second to appreciate our unsung hero- Maleke Seaward

Maleke serves as a board member, daily volunteer, and driver for the rec, and no matter the task, he is always willing to step up and serve. Whether it’s showing up day after day, getting in the trenches, or helping behind the scenes to make things run smoothly, Maleke consistently leads through action and commitment.

He has spearheaded career days, organized nursing home visits, led community cleanups, and continuously looks for ways to create meaningful opportunities and experiences for the youth and the community as a whole. His willingness to serve wherever needed does not go unnoticed.

We are incredibly grateful for the time, energy, leadership, and love he pours into this work. Thank you, Maleke, for all that you do and for being such an important part of the village helping shape and uplift our community every single day.
