We welcome you to DANCE! SHENANDOAH VALLEY CIVIL WAR ERA DANCERS·

In the 1860's during the American Civil War when two opposing armies clashed on farmer's fields, in villages and on the high seas; there was still a sense of self-worth, patriotism, and community involvement. Social entertainment, music and dancing, was looked forward to and encouraged. Whenever there was a dance it was a chance

for everyone to be cheerful in order to forget the raging war even for a few hours. It was a place to meet neighbors, friends, or newcomers and enjoy the music and dance of the time. The SVCWEDancers, my husband, Tom, and I are trying to encourage the same social involvement and gentile dance etiquette of the period. We welcome all to DANCE!
