THE FACES OF KURTH:
48 STRAY DOGS. 2 RECLAIMED.

Since October 1st, 48 dogs have entered Kurth Memorial Animal Services as strays.

Of those 48 dogs, only TWO have been reclaimed by their owners.

And of those 48 dogs, only TWO arrived with any form of identification that could help connect them with an owner.

These numbers matter because the shelter is full. Kennels are at capacity, yet stray dogs continue to arrive.

This little Lufkin shelter simply cannot keep up with this rate of stray intake without help from our community. ✨

🐾 If your pet is missing, please check the shelter. Please check in person and continue checking. With so many dogs coming through the doors, getting lost pets back home is one of the quickest and best ways to open a kennel.

🏠 If you’ve been considering adoption, now is the time. Every adoption gives one dog a home and creates space for the next dog who needs somewhere safe to go.

🐶 If you can foster, even temporarily, please reach out. Short-term fosters can help dogs awaiting rescue transport, while ongoing fosters provide a place to stay until another placement becomes available. Foster-to-adopt is an option, too.

So the shelter is completely full and decisions have to be made! How does the poor staff do it? Do you pick the stressed ones, the longest residents, or the older dogs?
We are an open municipal city shelter that has to take dogs in. Unfortunately when they are this full they have to make space! You can bash the shelter all you want but until people spay and neuter their pets this will happen again and again.

Attention, citizens of Angelina County! The time has come to put an end to unexpected litters and neighborhood romances.

Thanks to grant funding, Lufkin Animal Services is offering $15 SPAY & NEUTER appointments!

But remember, tributes… SPOTS ARE LIMITED!

This is a grant-funded program, which means we only have a limited number of appointments available. Once the funding is exhausted, the games are over!

🏹 HOW TO ENTER THE GAMES:

🐾 Step 1: Complete the application using the link below.

🐾 Step 2: You MUST include the following with your application:

📸 A picture of the animal you are applying for.

🪪 A picture of your driver's license.

🐾 Step 3: Once your application has been reviewed and approved, you will receive instructions on picking up your voucher for your pet's appointment.

💰 A $15 payment is required at the time of booking to secure your appointment.

🔥 THE RULES OF THE GAMES:

✅ You MUST be a resident of Angelina County.

✅ Limit of 2 pets per household.

✅ A picture of each animal and your driver's license must be submitted with your application.

✅ Appointments are limited and subject to available grant funding.

✅ Submitting an application does NOT guarantee an appointment.

⚠️ PLEASE REMEMBER: These appointments are made possible through grant funding. Once all available spots have been filled, we will not be able to accept additional appointments through this round of funding.
