Lowell Canalwaters Cleaners We organize volunteer community cleanup events to improve the quality of Lowell's waterways.

We are a nonprofit organization in Lowell, MA with the sole purpose of making the waterways of our city healthier. We organize monthly volunteer events from April to October and provide volunteers with the tools necessary to remove litter, invasive species, and other problematic elements from our canals, rivers, and brooks. We have been active in these efforts since 2004 and attract a diverse rang

e of volunteers from throughout the city. We are happy to provide a unique volunteer opportunity for individuals, groups, and organizations.

Consider joining us this Saturday, August 15th, from 8 am till 11 am for a cleanup along the banks of the Merrimack River behind the Tsongas arena, 300 Arcand dr. Parking in lot C, behind the arena is best. The river level is low, and we will be scaling a ladder to reach the trash along the river banks, but we will need people on the walkway to hoist up the buckets of trash we collect along the river banks, so all ability levels can help. Hello Everybody! Please consider joining us for a cleanup this coming Saturday, July 18th, from 8 am to 11 am. We will be cleaning at Mack Plaza, which is at the corner of Shattuck Street and Market Street. We will be cleaning the area in anticipation of the Lowell Folk Festival, which will be happening on the following weekend. Bring comfortable clothes and shoes, we will provide gloves and equipment. Join us for a bright and lively Saturday morning on July 20th, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, as we roll up our sleeves for a community cleanup along the scenic lower Western Canal near Hickey Hall Dam! We'll gather at the corner of Hall Street and Suffolk Street, ready to tackle trash and invasive plants together. Come prepared in sturdy shoes, and don't worry, we'll supply gloves, pickers, and all the tools you’ll need. Let’s make a visible difference and enjoy some fresh air, teamwork, and good company while we restore the canal’s beauty. We hope to see you there, ready to lend a hand and brighten our neighborhood!

The cleanup season will start on Saturday morning, May 2nd, at Ecumenical Plaza on Suffolk Street. Our cleanups are always 9 am till noon, wear sturdy shoes, we will provide gloves and equipment. We will be cleaning the canal banks in preparation for the Points of Light Lantern Celebration that will be held Saturday night. It's a great festival where they release hundreds of lanterns into Lowell's beautiful, historic canal.

The following is the schedule for this year's cleanups.

May 2nd Ecumenical plaza at Suffolk Street

June 20th To Be Determined probably Moody Street

July 18th Mack Plaza in preparation for the Folk Festival

August 15th TBD

September 26th National Public Lands Day location TBD

October TBD possibly along the Merrimack river behind the arena, depending on river height
