Bigfoot decided to try something new with an Icelandic fleece…. A “vegan sheepskin”. Ok we don’t like this name and are looking for a more realistic name. There is no skin involved. An entire fleece is wet felted to wool backing (our own Icelandic batting) and then is dried and combed. It will eventually look like a sheepskin but have a felted back instead of skin. It takes an entire year of growth on one animal along with many hours of labor to make the rug. Help us come up with a better name for what we hope will be a wonderful regenerative way to make sheep/wool rugs.

Spring time will soon be here! And spring means baby birds!!! Lincoln successfully incubated and hatched one of his American Buff Goose eggs and he has 40 Cayuga duck eggs in the incubator. In two weeks we should have lots of adorable fluffy ducklings! He will be selling some of them locally to raise money to care for his other animals. We candled them this morning and Lucas videoed some of them. Watch the babies move around in the videos. The last couple of eggs are not fertile so that everyone can see the difference.

Good morning everyone! As many know, our family is being affected by the government shutdown and has gone a month without a paycheck. We are in the middle of trying to buy the winter hay to feed the sheep and goats. Before the shutdown we were able to buy half of the hay we need. We are so grateful for our friends who have asked what we need and a dear friend who donated to buy the straw for the animals winter bedding! We are trying to raise $700 for the winter hay. If you are able to donate we would appreciate it and can provide a receipt for your taxes as we are a 501(c)3.

Do you have pumpkins that aren’t moldy and want to help feed the sheep and goats? Leave them at the end of our driveway and we will make sure they get fed to the animals or message me and we will make a time for you to smash one or two of your pumpkins for them!

Come see us this weekend on the Loudoun Farm Tour! We are so excited to see all our friends and neighbors. We have three new baby merino lambs and one baby cashmere goat to share with everyone. Also farmer Lincoln won 1st place at the state fair with his Marjolaine and is the top youth baker in the state for two years in a row!!! He will be selling a limited number of this amazing chocolate and hazelnut dessert to help raise money to feed all his animals for the winter. We will have some fun games, feeding animals, petting area, and demos of needle felting, wet felting, and spinning. Also our favorite needle felting artist will be home from college to amazing demos. Come watch Eden create her newest farm to art piece… spoiler alert it is portrait of one of her pet geese made out of wool from her own sheep!
