As promised, our newly dyed yarn! This yarn is 100g skeins of fi*****ng weight 70% merino wool, 20% silk, and 10% cashmere. While this is not from our own herd it is very much representative of them 🧡. We have 4 skeins of each for sale at $30/skein and we will donate $5 from each skein to National Audubon Society in honor of our daughter, Eden, who is currently working as an Project Puffin intern.

The two color-ways are inspired by photos she sent us. The first is of the Puffin’s bill color and the second is a sunrise on Seal Island, ME.

Message us if you would like to purchase a skein.

As many of our family, friends, and neighbors know, Eden is spending the summer in Maine doing an internship with the Audubon Society. She is participating in Project Puffin and is one of only a couple of undergrads chosen to spend 12 weeks on the islands off the coast of Maine helping doing sea bird research. She is living in a tent, with no running water and no electricity. She is spending hours a day watching and counting birds, banding chicks, recording what kind of fish they are feeding the babies, and inspecting nests (and being dive bombed by arctic terns). They are studying puffins, razorbills, guillemots, arctic terns, and several others birds. She is LOVING this amazing opportunity and everyday we get a few photos from her.

Lucas and I decided to take two of her photos and use them as inspiration for some yarn dyeing. We have only dyed a few times so it was a big challenge to attempt this! We are loving what we made! Here are the two photos we used as our inspiration. We will do another post tonight or tomorrow once the yarn is dry with the big reveal!

Boy Scout Troop 962 came over today to help one of the young men build a goat playground for his Eagle Project!!!! All of the goats approve of their use of reusing old playsets. A few more additions (including a goat swing) will go up in a couple of weeks.

Bigfoot decided to try something new with an Icelandic fleece…. A “vegan sheepskin”. Ok we don’t like this name and are looking for a more realistic name. There is no skin involved. An entire fleece is wet felted to wool backing (our own Icelandic batting) and then is dried and combed. It will eventually look like a sheepskin but have a felted back instead of skin. It takes an entire year of growth on one animal along with many hours of labor to make the rug. Help us come up with a better name for what we hope will be a wonderful regenerative way to make sheep/wool rugs.

Spring time will soon be here! And spring means baby birds!!! Lincoln successfully incubated and hatched one of his American Buff Goose eggs and he has 40 Cayuga duck eggs in the incubator. In two weeks we should have lots of adorable fluffy ducklings! He will be selling some of them locally to raise money to care for his other animals. We candled them this morning and Lucas videoed some of them. Watch the babies move around in the videos. The last couple of eggs are not fertile so that everyone can see the difference.

Even the animals don’t approve of the wind! Snow isn’t the worst but the wind is awful!!!
