Excel Services, a Louisville based mechanical and facilities company, returned to Auxier, KY for their first mission trip with us since 2022, jumping right into our Appalachia home repair program. From August 19 to 22, this group split across three worksites and built wheelchair ramps for three families in eastern Kentucky.

Between measuring boards and setting posts, there was plenty of bonding too, including one legendary night around the fire pit that turned into an old school country singalong.

Our favorite moment came when a homeowner got to roll down her brand new ramp for the very first time. That’s exactly what this immersion trip is about. 💙💚

Grace Station Thrift Shoppe, an outreach ministry of Graceland Baptist Church in New Albany, Indiana, presented Hand in Hand with a $5,000 donation to support our Louisville Program. Pictured here is Caleb Brooks, our Louisville Program Director, accepting the gift on behalf of Hand in Hand.

Grace Station’s mission is to share Christ’s love in the local community by providing quality goods at low cost, with all proceeds benefiting local nonprofits helping families in need. We are honored to be among the organizations they have chosen to support.

This generous gift goes directly toward home safety and accessibility repairs for Louisville neighbors who need them most, including wheelchair ramps, handrails, and other critical home improvements that help people remain safely and independently in their homes.

St. Francis de Sales Church and St. Edward Church have been serving together in Appalachia for over a decade. Two congregations, one from Lebanon, Ohio and one from Louisville, Kentucky, who years ago decided their impact would be greater if they combined forces. 🤲

This summer they returned to eastern Kentucky for a Hand in Hand home repair immersion trip and got to work. Two wheelchair ramps built for neighbors who needed safe, accessible entry to their own homes. And continued interior ceiling repairs for Doni, a project that has been a labor of love and persistence over multiple trips.

This is what long term commitment to a community looks like. Not just showing up once, but coming back year after year until the work is done. That is the heart of a Hand in Hand Appalachia mission trip.
