Week 2 of summer at The Cabbage Patch has been a blast! We had three amazing summer: Teen Leadership Camp, Entrepreneurship Camp, and Volleyball Camp. Plus, the STREAM Education Program kicked off, helping students stay engaged in learning over the summer months.

In Entrepreneurship Camp, campers learned how to start their own business from the ground up, creating their own business plan, marketing strategy, and even business roll out. They created two tasty businesses this week: Desserts & Drinks and Cookies & Crafts. Emmanuel, a camper, shared their marketing slogan: “Desserts & Drinks, our desserts are for kings and queens!” The groups capped off the week with a sidewalk sale where they sold their delicious products!

Summer opportunities like these would not be possible without our community and our generous supporters. There’s still time to donate and help give the gift of the best summer ever to a Cabbage Patch kid! Click here to make a gift today: https://www.cabbagepatch.org/donation-page/. .

This past Monday, the skies cooperated, and we had a fantastic day at The Cabbage Patch Golf Tournament full of fun, fellowship, purpose and, of course, golf! This annual fundraiser helps raise money for educational initiatives at The Cabbage Patch.

The highlight of the day was hearing from Jillian and Katharine, two of our Cabbage Patch youth who just graduated high school and will head off to college at the end of the summer. These two bright young girls shared the impact The Cabbage Patch had on helping them discover their passions, navigate the college application process, and stay on the course to success in life. As Katharine shared, “The Cabbage Patch has helped me grow not only as a student, but as a person. It gave me opportunities, memories, friendships, and lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.” Their stories of resilience, community, and imagination remind us why this work truly matters.

We extend our deep thanks to this year’s sponsors: Stock Yards Bank & Trust Co, Mackin Family Foundation of Louisville, Plumbers Supply Co., LG&E and KU, Westmoreland Pharmacy, Todd Asset Management, First Financial Bank, Optimist Club of Louisville, Kosair for Kids, Musketeer Mortgage, and Simpler Real Estate. Also THANK YOU to all the golfers and volunteers, co-chairs John Fidler and Kevin Edwards, our celebrity golfer — Michael Bush, and to our community for your continued support of The Cabbage Patch!

Summer is off to a great start at The Cabbage Patch! We had our first three summer camps this week: Fishing Camp, Basketball Camp and Visual Arts Camp.

In Fishing Camp, kids ventured out every day this week to fish at different spots around the Louisville area. They learned how to cast a line, hook their bait, and, of course, reel in a big fish! That includes campers like Marcus, who caught his first fish this week!

In Basketball Camp, campers started each day with a run in the park to get their blood pumping for the day ahead. They learned the importance of teamwork while practicing the fundamentals of dribbling, passing, shooting, and having fun! Each camper received a certificate to recognize their hard work and effort this week.

Visual Arts Camp was a chance for budding young artists to try their hand at painting, sculpting, 3-D art, and much more. They capped off the week with some messy, interactive painting projects!

These are just a few of the summer experiences that every child deserves and they would not be possible without the support of our donors. Will you give the gift of the best summer ever to Louisville kids? Click here to make a gift today: https://www.cabbagepatch.org/donation-page/.

For many children, summer is a season full of possibility — but access to enriching camps and programs can be costly. Research shows that children can lose one-third of what they learn in school over the summer. But summer camps help engage their minds and make learning fun!

Every child deserves a summer of discovery, adventure, and belonging.

• $50 allows a child to attend a full day of camp
• $100 covers the cost of swimming for one child
• $250 enrolls one child in the six-weeks STREAM
• $500 covers the cost of two children to attend College Tour camp
• $1,000 sends two teens to travel camp

Will you make a gift today and give a child the summer they will never forget? Donate now: https://www.cabbagepatch.org/donation-page/.

Aloha! We celebrated Asian American/Pacific Islander Heritage Month at The Cabbage Patch with our friends at Hui Kaululehua. Patch kids constructed paper lanterns, made colorful homemade leis and learned authentic Hawaiian drumming. At The Cabbage Patch, we believe in celebrating diversity and honoring cultural heritages throughout the year. It reminds us that though we may be different, we have many things in common and many things we can learn from each other. Mahalo and many thanks to everyone who helped us celebrate AAPI Heritage Month!

We want to celebrate and say a fond farewell to Patch staffers Chelsea and Nicco as their time at The Cabbage Patch comes to a close. For two years, Nicco has served as our recreation specialist, creating a fun and engaging space in the Game Room where kids can play and connect with friends. Chelsea has been at The Patch for six years, starting out as the recreation front office coordinator, then the family development assistant. For the last five years, she has been the volunteer coordinator, serving as a welcoming liaison between staff and community volunteers. Chelsea and Nicco have been two dedicated and joyful staff members who have made a huge impact on The Cabbage Patch. We wish them all the best as they begin the next chapter of their lives!
