The Cabbage Patch Settlement House is a local nonprofit, empowering children, youth, and families to reach their full potential since 1910. Our mission is to provide life-changing academic, recreational, and mentoring opportunities through Christ-centered values. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, all classes and activities offered through The Cabbage Patch are free to our members (with the exception of our Summer Camping Program and selected field trips). A big thank you to the volunteers from Risepoint, who recently shared their time and talents with The Cabbage Patch! Risepoint is an organization committed to helping students succeed in college. As part of their visit, volunteers spent an hour meeting with Cabbage Patch College Scholars helping them with interview prep. The prep will make a huge impact for scholars as they apply for scholarships, pursue jobs, and begin their careers.

On top of that, volunteers also did some amazing gardening work in the front courtyard of The Patch and organized supplies in our storage area. The campus is shining just a little brighter thanks to these volunteers.

Outdoor Explorers is one of the new specialty programs launched this fall to help engage more youth while encouraging growth and responsibility. For the past few weeks, Cabbage Patch kids have been learning outdoor safety.

Recently, they put their skills and knowledge to the test by going to Central Park to climb trees. Before starting, Ms. Lili made sure every Patch member knew to keep three points of contact on the tree, only climb where they felt comfortable, and ask for help when they needed it.

Shanti, one of the younger members of the group, had never climbed a tree before. “I’m surprised this is even legal!” she exclaimed. She needed help from staff at first, but by the end of the hour, she was climbing, safely yet exuberantly, and entirely on her own. It was a perfect example of how Patch programs not only help young people learn important skills, but they also build confidence, camaraderie, and core memories!

Micah Curry-Petway was our featured speaker for this year’s Champions Event. As a current College Scholar, Micah is pursuing his nursing degree at Bellarmine University in Louisville.

In his speech, Micah shared how The Cabbage Patch helped him create a web of connections while nurturing his growth as a leader. Now, with the help of the College Scholars Program, he is pursuing his goals, learning accountability, and building a successful future.

“The scholarship program is motivation for us to continue building an educational and career path that we can be proud of. The financial support is helpful, but more important is the people who mentor and help us navigate the challenges of college, so we never have to feel alone,” Micah said.

“Dear Jesus, help us to get out of the boat and trust in you, and keep us from drowning when we sometimes doubt. Amen.”

In September, The Cabbage Patch launched several new clubs and specialty programs designed to reach children and youth in new ways while meeting them where they are.

On Tuesday nights, Mr. Luke holds a Bible study group called “Lambs of God.” Each week, they sing praise songs, dive into scripture, and do a craft or activity related to the Bible story of the week.

This week, they explored the story of Jesus walking on water and how it shows we can trust in Jesus, even in scary storms. “It means we can have faith in Jesus, always!” shared Kingston, an elementary school boy who attends every week.

We are just a day away from the 2026 Champions Event! In anticipation of this wonderful night, we are excited to introduce Micah Curry-Petway, our featured College Scholar and guest speaker.

Micah began coming to The Cabbage Patch at the young age of six. The Patch has been a nurturing presence in his life ever since and is now supporting him as he completes the registered nursing program at Bellarmine University.
We are excited for you to hear his story of growth, from a quiet and reserved child to a budding young professional.

This week was our first Fellowship of Christian Athletes huddle for the year. With over 30 Patch kids in attendance, it was full of fun, friendship, and fellowship. Mr. James led group games and Ms. Keri shared about the purpose of FCA — to share the love of Jesus with others. In closing, she shared scriptures that remind us to say in prayer and relationship with God, no matter what we are facing.
