Go Knights! Big thanks to the first-year class from Bellarmine University who helped around The Cabbage Patch as part of their annual Knights in Action service day.

Are you looking for ways to have a positive impact for others? Volunteering with The Cabbage Patch is a great way to make a difference in a young person’s life.
We have several volunteer opportunities now, including:

• Serving Dare to Care dinners
• Teaching fitness classes
• Leading piano classes for small groups of Cabbage Patch kids
• Sponsoring a meal for a Patch Parents Meeting
• Teaching crochet lessons in the Art Room
• Contributing to the Birthday Toy Drive to help celebrate Cabbage Patch kids’ birthdays!

We also welcome volunteer groups to help with campus beautification, clean up, and organization projects.

As the carefree days of summer come to a close, we’re sending a big “Thank you!” to Kosair for Kids. Through the Kosair for Kids Healthy Camps initiative several of our summer camps were supported, along with fitness programs that keep Cabbage Patch kids moving throughout the school year. As an organization, we are dedicated to the belief that every child deserves to be their best self and committed to promoting childhood health and wellness. Thank you, Kosair for Kids, for helping Cabbage Patch kids live more healthy and active lives!

The Cabbage Patch has been buzzing with back-to-school energy as kids begin a new academic year. We kicked off things in a BIG way, welcoming over 80 students to our annual Back to School Party. The celebration was packed with fun, complete with face painting, balloon animals, a caricature artist, hairstyling competitions, a bounce house, games, food, and more. Thank you so much for supporting Pickle for The Patch! Although we did not get to see everyone on the court, we are so grateful for the players, volunteers, and sponsors for making such a huge impact. Because of your generosity, more than 120 children will start the school year with backpacks, notebooks, pencils, folders, and the confidence they need to succeed! Happy first day of school to all our Cabbage Patch students and families! The school year before us is full of opportunities to learn, grow, and achieve success. We pray every one of you have a rewarding week at school, whether you are starting a new school, a new grade or an entirely new school system.

Education is at the heart of The Cabbage Patch’s mission. As former longtime staff member Roosevelt Chin reminded us, “You don’t work your way out of poverty, you educate your way out!” Education is the key to success, and if your child is in need of homework help, a place to express themselves creatively, or a circle of friends for support, there is a place for them at The Cabbage Patch. You have made this the best summer ever at The Cabbage Patch! All summer long, Cabbage Patch kids have had the chance to bike, hike, camp, travel, dance, design, create, construct, read, problem solve, learn, and play, all while making incredible summer memories. Thank you to our staff, supporters, and volunteers for making it a fun and engaging summer.

We also extend our deep gratitude to all who made a financial contribution to summer camps this year. While the actual cost of a week of camp is $388 per child, the families we serve only pay $25 per child because of your donations. Thank you for blessing The Patch through your generosity!

Extra! Extra! Read all about it! We are honored to be featured in today’s digital Courier Journal, which tells the story of The Cabbage Patch’s history, impact and legacy over the last 115 years in Louisville.

Though there have been many changes in the neighborhood and historical events that have shaped our community, one thing remains the same: The Cabbage Patch is here for everyone. Thank you to everyone who has helped keep Miss Marshall’s passion for serving children and families alive with each new generation. And we are grateful for our two Patch alumni featured in the story — Danielle Ruffin and Denis Stewart — who shared some of the firsthand impact The Patch has had on their lives.
