Wednesday July 1! Join Amanda Karkoutly of cahuengapast to explore the histories and shadows of filmmaker David Lynch’s most beloved LA locations!

This talk doubles as the opening event of our YesterdayLA series AND our Twin Peaks lecture series! Both happening throughout July.

David Lynch’s Los Angeles will explore the shadows beneath the sunshine of Los Angeles, a city that embodies Lynch’s famous duality: beauty and terror, sunshine and lurking shadows, both the dream and the nightmare.

Amanda Karkoutly of cahuengapast will present a slideshow of select filming locations from Lynch’s works, go through some unique histories of locations, and celebrate parts of Los Angeles that held meaning for one of the city’s greatest champions. Lynch’s work encourages finding both the terror and the paradise in the mundane, the seemingly innocuous dumpsters and roads of Los Angeles.
Come walk in the footsteps of genius and see how Los Angeles is a city that truly deserves the description of “Lynchian.”

This Saturday June 20! At 2PM!

Join the Resonance Collective at the Philosophical Research Society for the quarterly Helios Series - an devotional ritual on the equinoxes and solstices where we come together to reflect, share, and sing outside of a particular religious context. Each event is based on a different theme that corresponds with the season.

This June, join us for Light Choir, a time to hold space for each other outside of a particular religious context during this celebration of life’s abundance. Held near the first day of Summer, this ritual is both a time to sit with joy and find ways to share our light as a community.

No previous musical experience is necessary to participate in Light Choir.

Calling all bibliophiles, wisdom seekers, and preservationists!

The Philosophical Research Society is looking for stewards who share our commitment to preserving a living archive of human wisdom — and the singular building that houses it.

The heavy rains and ongoing threat of fire in Los Angeles have created an urgent need for action.

This year, we are raising $100,000 to replace the roof and original skylights over the library and lecture room — repairs that are critical to protecting both the historic landmark building and the precious collection of books and artwork within its walls.

An anonymous donor has generously committed a $25,000 matching grant for any donations received during the month of JUNE! We now turn to members of the PRS community who can help us raise the remaining $75,000.

It is through your stewardship that we can care for this dear building and collection — and keep its doors open to all who seek wisdom.

The PRS Library is not just a museum. It is a living library — its doors are open to all who seek new ways of understanding and finding meaning in our world.

The 30,000 volume collection illuminates how ancient ideas continue to make a difference in lives today: as inspiration for art, as a foundation for inquiry, as a gathering place for community. It is a space for students, scholars, artists, mystics, and all seekers.

Each year, the library receives over 2,000 visitors and hosts more than 100 events — lectures, art exhibitions, reading groups, and community conversations sparked by the energy of the collection.

By helping us repair the library’s roof and original skylights, your donation ensures the library collection remains safe and is open to the public for years to come.

Thank you!

Friday June 26!! Join us for, Devotional Singing Circle with mx puja singh!

let’s come together in community to sing and explore and open our voices so that we can express ourselves more freely, in all the ways.

singing is so good for your nervous system as well as your heart and soul! and singing in a group can be such a healing experience so i hope this will support you wherever you are at in your journey. this is all about exploration, play and connection. and this is a practice to invite more singing and music into our everyday lives.

we will do some vocal warmups/exercises to get into our bodies and voices and then we will just play around and improvise on some different ideas. no experience necessary, all are welcome! (feel free to bring an instrument, not necessary just an option)

This Sunday June 14! Join us for a special online talk, “Hilma af Klint and Wassily Kandinsky: Dreams of the Future with authors Julia Voss and Daniel Birnbaum”

When the Swedish painter Hilma af Klint (1862-1944) was rediscovered decades after her death her work was often looked at through the lens of Wassily Kandinsky’s abstraction. Julia Voss and Daniel Birnbaum reverse the method. Af Klint is being explored as a starting point. Her paintings are taken as a lens to examine Kandinsky’s. The result is astonishing.

Professor Julia Voss first saw a painting by Hilma af Klint in 2008 and has been fascinated by the Swedish painter ever since. As the arts editor of Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, she wrote the article “Art History Must Be Rewritten” about Hilma af Klint in 2013. In 2017, she decided to quit her job, learn Swedish, and research af Klint’s life and work. Her book “Hilma af Klint. A Biography” became a bestseller and was published in English by Chicago University Press in 2022. With Daniel Birnbaum, she published “Hilma af Klint and Wassily Kandinsky. Dreams of the Future” with David Zwirner Books in 2026. Julia Voss works in the president’s office at the German Historical Museum in Berlin and teaches art history at Leuphana University in Lüneburg.
