Willmore City Community Association

WCCA is a non-profit with a mission to improve, preserve, and advocate for Willmore City/ Drake Park.

Willmore City Heritage Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation that was founded in 1976. Our mission is to improve, preserve, and advocate for Long Beach’s first designated Historic District: Willmore City/ Drake Park. As an organization, we support our local Community Centers, sponsor neighborhood clean-ups, tree plantings, and home tours, and host multiple community events per year. We

are also a qualified Community Housing Development Organization and have been the recipient of awards from the Cultural Heritage Commission, Community Development, and Neighborhoods USA.

A HUGE thank you to Freebirds Salon for being such an incredible part of our Back-to-School Event! ✂️❤️🎒

Their amazing team generously gave their time and talent to provide free haircuts for local kids, helping them head into the new school year feeling confident, excited, and ready for a fresh start.

Back-to-school expenses add up quickly, and something as simple as a fresh haircut can make a meaningful difference for both children and their families.

We are incredibly grateful to Freebirds Salon for showing up for our kids and investing in our community. Thank you for helping make this day so special! ❤️

Back to School in Willmore! What an incredible evening of community, generosity, and coming together for our kids.

This year, 200 children walked away ready to start the school year with:
🎒 Backpacks filled with school supplies
💧 Insulated water bottles
📚 Brand-new books
👟 Brand-new shoes

But this event was about so much more than the giveaways.

Eight amazing organizations joined us to connect families with valuable community resources. Freebird’s Salon provided free haircuts for children, Handel’s kept everyone cool with delicious ice cream, wonderful local baker, Pin-up Kitchen made Rice Krispie treats for our families, and DJ Marlon X brought the energy with live music throughout the evening.

Were there moments of struggle? Absolutely. Large community events aren’t always easy. But it’s important to remember why we do this.

The purpose has always been to make sure children in our community can walk into the first day of school feeling prepared, confident, and excited — while helping ease some of the financial burden that back-to-school season can place on families.

And 200 kids left with what they needed to do exactly that.

While our Back to School event may look a little different in the future, we are incredibly thankful we were able to make this year’s event happen.

And finally, a HUGE thank you to the 58 incredible people who showed up to volunteer, partner, donate their time, and support our families. An event like this simply does not happen without people willing to step up for their community.

200 kids. 58 people making it happen. One community showing up for each other.

FREE TODDLER SHOES! 👟 We have 7 pairs of brand new toddler shoes and we’d love to get them to families who can use them!

Available sizes:
• 2 pairs — Size 2 Toddler
• 2 pairs — Size 3 Toddler
• 1 pair — Size 4 Toddler
• 2 pairs — Size 5 Toddler

We’re so excited to welcome everyone to the Back-to-School Event tomorrow! We’re expecting a large turnout, so please take a moment to read these important updates before arriving:

PLEASE READ:
-Eventbrite registration does NOT guarantee items or a place in line. All giveaways are first come, first served while supplies last.
-Beginning at 2 PM, WCCA volunteers will begin going down the line and placing wristbands directly on children for backpacks and shoes.
-We have 200 backpacks, and shoe sizes range from 2 Toddler through 6 Big Kid 6. Shoe wristbands will be issued based on the sizes still available. Children will not be able to choose a specific shoe, color, or style.
-Free haircut sign-ups will also be done while volunteers go down the line. Haircut appointments are limited, and once all available appointment slots have been filled, sign-ups will close.
-We’re using this system to honor the order of the line and make distribution as fair and organized as possible for everyone.

We’re getting ready for our Back-to-School Event next Tuesday! This year, we’ll be giving away 206 pairs of brand-new Vans, Converse & Nike shoes for boys and girls, with sizes ranging from Toddler 2 through Youth 6! 💙

¡Nos estamos preparando para nuestro evento de Regreso a Clases el próximo martes! Este año estaremos regalando 206 pares de zapatos nuevos Vans, Converse y Nike para niños y niñas, con tallas desde 2 de niño pequeño hasta 6 juvenil. 💙

Children must be present! One pair of shoes per child. First come, first served while supplies last. Eventbrite registration does not guarantee giveaway items.
