On April 17, 2026, we had the privilege of attending the Los Angeles County Cambodian Employees Association (LACCEA) New Year celebration, where CHPAA was honored as the event’s distinguished honoree. We were especially honored to receive acknowledgment and awards from the California State Treasurer Fiona Ma, California Senator Lena Gonzales, Councilwoman Suely Saro, Jeffry Prang, Los Angeles Office of Assesor and LACCEA for CHPAA’s mission to advance healthcare in underserved communities.

On behalf of the CHPAA Board, we extend our heartfelt thanks to the community for its continued support. We are particularly appreciative of our dedicated volunteers, whose tireless efforts make our work possible. Without their commitment, CHPAA would not be able to continue serving underserved communities.

Thank you, Khmerican, for featuring
Dr. Song Tan as an exemplary leader within the Cambodian American community. This recognition not only honors Dr. Tan’s impactful contributions, but also underscores the vital work of CHPAA in promoting service, education, and health. Elevating leaders like Dr. Tan helps bring greater visibility to the ongoing efforts that strengthen and empower our communities.

Dr. Song Tan () is a board‑certified pediatrician in private practice in Long Beach, California, with over five decades of clinical experience. After surviving the Khmer Rouge genocide and fleeing by foot to refugee camps on the Cambodian–Thai border, he resettled in San Francisco, where he worked as a health worker and interpreter before completing his pediatric residency at the University of Hawai‘i John A. Burns School of Medicine and Kapiʻolani Medical Center. He has held leadership roles including Chair of Pediatric Medicine at Miller Children’s Hospital and current Chair of the Pediatric Department at St. Mary Medical Center, and has served as a board member of the City of Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services.

Dr. Tan is the founder and president of the Cambodian Health Professionals Association of America (CHPAA), a non‑profit that organizes medical, dental, and surgical missions to Cambodia and supports health‑equity initiatives in the U.S. He has received multiple honors, among them the Katherine White Humanitarian Award from The Children’s Clinic of Long Beach, the Outstanding Community Service Excellence Merit Award from the Cambodian American Business Association, and the Immunization Innovation Award presented by former California First Lady Gayle Wilson; he was also recognized as a “Community Hero” and “Community Leadership” awardee by CAPtivating Causes in 2021. Fluent in Khmer, English, French, Chinese, and conversational medical Spanish, he continues to mentor Cambodian students and health professionals and to lead annual mission trips to underserved communities in Cambodia.
