Little Compton Makers is a community collaboration serving the citizens of Little Compton, RI, and the surrounding communities, which aims to offer maker-centered learning programs and experiences in order to engage young people in S.T.E.A.M. We want to assist children and youth, in developing competence regarding technology and common household tools, in realizing their responsibility to their co

mmunity and the world and in gaining 21st century skills to shape their futures as global citizens and agents of change. What we believe: In schools, the freedom for teachers to diverge from curriculum in order to follow student driven interests has been lost. We are a group of parents, teachers, and community members who strongly believe that ownership of an idea and self driven projects that suit student needs, interests and styles fosters personal empowerment and lead learners to exceed all expectations! We believe making helps learners develop a sense of agency; teaching them to take control over their life, be more active and responsible for their own learning and understand they have the power to create and inspire changes in their communities and around the world. We also believe making fosters an ethic of environmentalism placing value on reducing, reusing, recycling and repurposing. What we do: LC Makers offers programs to introduce children from grades K-8 to hands-on S.T.E.A.M. Our activities encourage children and youth to be free thinkers and creators and to use the design process to think through problems to reach solutions. Students have opportunities to learn through direct experience, innovation and through fabrication learn safe use of common household tools and D.I.Y.

This week LC Makers had a woodworking camp led by Becca Levi!! The kids learned how to craft their own knock-down stools/tables. The kids used Japanese hand saws, coping saws, files, and learned about joinery. Over the course of the week the kids made beautiful creations!!

Our Young Artists Show is now open to the public today and tomorrow 10am-2pm!! We had 3 winners in 1st place for their age group, and one best in show! We are also having a silent auction for the paintings the art campers made showed in the last slide, “Viscosity Paintings”. Congratulations to our winners and thank you to all who participated!

We will be receiving artwork TODAY at COASTAL LIVING GALLERY, 2 Meetinghouse Ln. Little Compton, between 4:30 - 5:30 p.m!

If you’re unable to drop off at that time, please email us so we can arrange another time.

All entries should be dropped off Today. Late entries are not advised, as they will be missed in Wednesday’s scheduled judging!!!

What an incredible week at our Art in Motion Summer Camp! 🎨⚙️ Throughout the week, campers entering grades 2–6 explored the exciting connection between art and STEM through hands-on projects that sparked creativity, problem-solving, and innovation. Led by guest artist Mark Gleicher, along with L.C. Makers educators Heather Helger and Wendy Fuller, students designed and built scribble bots, experimented with simple circuits, and discovered how engineering and structural principles can bring artistic ideas to life. Most importantly, they had a blast creating, collaborating, and expressing their unique ideas!!💙✨

Last week the kids were working on simple circuit Father’s Day cards!! By connecting copper tape on paper to a battery and a light, it creates a mini lightsaber to go on the front of the card! Kids were also practicing coding, and using 3D printing pens! So many different crafts to explore at open makerspace 🖌️🤖✨
