đź’ś International Overdose Awareness Day | August 31 đź’ś

Today, we remember the people we have lost to overdose, honor those whose lives have been impacted, and recommit ourselves to preventing further loss.

You’ll see overdose awareness banner displays throughout our neighboring municipalities, a visible reminder that this issue touches every community. This year, 219 flags are displayed with each of those banners to represent the 219 Rhode Islanders who lost their lives to an overdose in 2025. Each flag represents a life, a loved one, a family, and a community forever changed.

And NCPC is pairing remembrance with action!

We’re proud to join a statewide naloxone outreach effort tomorrow, 9/1 to help put this lifesaving medication into the hands of more Rhode Islanders. Our team will be distributing naloxone and sharing resources at:

Naloxone saves lives. Knowing how to recognize an overdose and having naloxone available can make the difference between life and death.

Together, we can prevent overdose deaths and support a healthier, safer Rhode Island.
