On June 15, 2026, the FDA issued a formal Warning Letter to Happiest Baby, maker of the SNOO. They were selling new sleep sack sizes and the SNOO Hospital Bundle without FDA review or authorization. The FDA also points to mold reported on SNOO mattresses, stains, and unsanitary conditions on refurbished units sent to families.

Ana Connery of Consumer Reports is warning parents and caregivers that baby loungers continue to pose serious safety risks for infants, even as new federal safety standards take effect.

Read the full article at: 🔗https://www.consumerreports.org/babies-kids/child-safety/baby-loungers-updated-safety-rules-a4697251127/

According to the CPSC, U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, many infant loungers, including support cushions, are still associated with infant deaths and injuries. These products can create risks of suffocation, entrapment, and falls, particularly when used for sleep.

If you own a baby lounger, remember that it should NEVER be used as a sleep space for your baby. Babies should sleep:

-(A)lone, NO blankets, pillows, bumpers, or stuffed animals
-on their (B)ack to sleep
-in a (C)rib with a firm, flat sleep surface
-and in a (S)moke-free environment

In addition, SIDS of IL does not recommend baby loungers for infant sleep. Products with soft padding, raised sides, or pillow-like surfaces do not meet CPSC safe sleep recommendations and can increase the risk of sleep-related infant death. Dr. Hannah C. Kinney

Department of Pathology, Boston Children’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts

“Take a method and try it.
If it fails, admit it frankly,
And try another. But by all
Means, try something.”
-Franklin D. Rosevelt

I am heartbroken to share with you the death of Dr. Hannah Kinney, the OG of SIDS research. Dr. Hannah Kinney began studying the WHY of SIDS in 1981. She took a critical look at the brainstem of babies who died from SIDS and continued her research for decades. Dr. Kinney and Dr. James Filiano co-developed the Triple Risk Model in 1984. This model proposed that when the Vulnerable Infant, in the Critical Period of Development, and External Stressors overlap, an infant is at the highest risk for SIDS. Her research showed that SIDS is most likely Multifactorial rather than a single cause.

In the 1990’s we were fortunate enough to have Dr. Hannah Kinney be the keynote speaker at the Northern Illinois SIDS Foundation Conference – now known as SIDS of Illinois, Inc. In February 2025, I had the honor of meeting Dr. Kinney again and hearing her present as she received the Inaugural Hannah C. Kinney Lifetime Achievement Award at the Isabel Davis Center for Safe Children in Houston. Her presentation was a trip down the “Rabbit Hole” and “Lessons Learned.”

She was certainly one of a kind, and we will miss her wisdom and kindness to all SIDS parents.

Kind regards,
Nancy Maruyama RN, BSN, NCBF
