Message per Society President, Pete Maas:

"LINDEN LEGENDS BOOK AVAILABLE SOON!"

"This Historical Reference book has been prepared by the Linden Mills Historical Society in conjunction with the America 250 Commemoration. This limited-edition book's primary purpose mirrors the purpose of the society; to preserve and promote the heritage and history of the Linden area. The legends featured in this book are those prominent individuals who have made important and lasting contributions toward the founding, growth and development of the Linden Community and its culture over the past nearly 200 years.
This 210-page book will become available during Linden's River Roast Celebration on July 18 at the Historical Society's booth. The price of the book is $25 and will make a great gift for Christmas or birthdays."

Before Felch's had a grocery store at the current Alpine Marketplace location, they had one in downtown Linden in the historic Union Block building. Felch's, downtown, had a fire, in 1953. (Unfortunately, the Union Block had a devastating fire in May of 2007 and was demolished.)

Current Alpine Marketplace, 604 W. Broad St, stands where one of Linden's pioneers lived. Younges Benton (1817 - 1900) had a home at this location. Gentleman farmer, breeder of Holstein cattle and Stone Plover horses. Also owner of the Benson Brick and Tile Co until his son-in-law A.B. Hyatt took it over in the 1870's. Younges was known for his generosity with any and all Linden Projects.
(many thanks to David Kincaid for this info on Younges Benton)

This summer, something a little different is happening across Genesee County.
It’s called the America 250 Passport Program—and it turns visiting places like the Flushing Area Historical Society into part of a larger experience.
Here’s how it works:
šŸ“ Visit participating locations across the county
šŸ“– Get your passbook stamped at each stop
šŸ† Collect enough stamps and earn rewards
There are over a dozen locations involved—including museums, historic sites, and community spaces—and Flushing is part of it.
But here’s the real question:
šŸ‘‰ How many places around Genesee County have you never actually stepped inside?
This is a chance to change that.
šŸ“… The program runs through September 30, so there’s plenty of time to explore.
šŸ’¬ Are you planning to try it?
šŸ“ And how many stops do you think you could hit?

We’ll be part of this program here in Flushing — so if you’re working on your passport, make sure to stop in and get your stamp.
