Provide recognition and support to former players, coaches, sports media personalities, and others who have significantly influenced the sport of basketball in the Greater Columbus Area. During the 1920's, the game of basketball had long been developed but there was no prospect of making a career out of the sport due to the disbanding of the most popular leagues an teams. Never the less, the YMCA kept basketball alive by spreading knowledge of the game across the USA and the rest of the world. Basketball soon grew in popularity and brought a sense of camaraderie to communities such as Columbus, Ohio. Thus, the Greater Columbus Basketball Legends Association was founded on September 8, 2012 to provide recognition and support to former players, coaches, sports media personalities, and others who have significantly influenced the sport of basketball dating back to the 1920's.

Today, we pause to honor The Honorable I. Ray Miller; a true champion who understood that the greatest victories come from serving others, advancing justice and driving change to make a difference in the lives of others.

Senator Miller dedicated himself to Central Ohio and to the people of Ohio, using his brilliance, his voice, his leadership and his influence to open doors, create opportunity and make our communities stronger.

His legacy reminds us that greatness is measured by the lives you impact and the opportunities you create for others.

Senator Miller invested in people, showed up for his community and made Ohio a better place for us all.

In basketball, we understand that while the game will end, we know a champion's legacy lives on.

Today, we salute a true champion.

Thank you, Senator Miller, for the example you set for us all, the lives you touched and the rich legacy you leave for generations to come.
