Meet Community Health Worker Miranda Keifer!

Hello! My name is Miranda Keifer, and I have been a Community Health Worker for nine years. I am a proud enrolled Ponca member and mother to one daughter. When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time at home with my family.

One of the things I enjoy most about working for the Tribe is the relationships I have built with our members and clients over the years. Helping people connect with the services and resources they need is something I truly enjoy. Building strong foundations and trusted relationships with our families is such an important part of being a Community Health Worker.

Working for the Tribe has also given me the opportunity to continue learning about our culture, which has become very near and dear to my heart. Staying connected to our culture and helping our families build those same connections is something I value deeply.

Our Tribe continues to grow, and it is a beautiful thing to witness.

Meet Community Health Worker Nancie Velasquez!

Hello! My name is Nancie Velasquez, and I am the Community Health Manager. I am a proud enrolled Ponca member and have had the privilege of working for the Tribe for 12 years.

I enjoy planning events and creating opportunities that bring our community together, but where I truly shine is advocating for our patients and providing case management. Helping our members navigate resources, overcome barriers, and make sure their voices are heard is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.

I am incredibly blessed to work alongside such a dedicated team of Community Health Workers. Together, we have continued to grow and strengthen our CHW program, and I am proud of what we have accomplished.

My goal is to continue building a program that provides meaningful support to our members and becomes a model that other Tribal CHW programs can look to and learn from.

At the heart of everything we do is one purpose: serving our people, strengthening our community, and making sure our members know they have someone in their corner.

💬TALKING CIRCLE TONIGHT🗨️

THV would like to expand to all Ponca service areas, but needs your help! Talking circles will take place this year to decide if services are desired, and what would be helpful for families in Norfolk, Niobrara, and Sioux City.

Do you struggle with alcohol or opioid use? Did you know there are medications that can help with dependency? The Ponca Tribe of Nebraska’s Behavioral Health Department has implemented a Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) program to help people suffering from alcohol and opioid dependency.
The MAT program is a treatment approach that uses medications in combination with counseling and behavioral therapies to treat alcohol and opioid dependency.
Contact Kayla Criger today at 402.738.3165 for more information about starting the MAT program.

August 24 - 30 is National Community Health Worker Week!

This week, we are proud to celebrate National Community Health Worker (CHW) Week!

Throughout the week, we’ll be highlighting each of our five Community Health Workers so you can get to know the people who work every day to support, educate, advocate for, and connect our community members with the resources they need.

Get to know your CHWs and learn more about the important work they do in our communities!

As always, please reach out to your local CHW if you have questions or concerns about our program, need assistance, or would like help connecting to available resources.

Stay tuned as we introduce our CHWs throughout the week!

The Native Blanket Graduation Ceremony is a special celebration recognizing Tribal Home Visiting families who are graduating from the program and children transitioning to kindergarten. The ceremony will honor each family’s accomplishments, celebrate children’s growth and school readiness, recognize the role of culture in raising strong children, and strengthen community connections as families begin the next stage of their journey.
A meal and childcare will be provided. For more information, contact Tonya Wulff at [email protected] or Abbi Miranda-Carreto at [email protected].
