Wics Home for Girls

Wics Home for Girls WICS (Women In Community Service) is a girls group home that has been in operation since 1970, serving the needs of young ladies, considered at risk.

Thousands of women have gone through our building, and what they all have in common are dysfunctional homes or social problems. We work with girls ranging from 13-18 years old that are struggling with issues of their own behaviors or from their families. We work closely with each of their home schools to attempt to get them back on track with their educational goals. We have a tutor on our staff t

hat oversees the girls' study habits. We have a strong dedication to teaching both social skills and independent living to our residents. When appropriate, we try to get the girls part time employment, to learn the value of a job, then how to manage their income. We have a loyal and dedicated staff that are role models for our girls. We value a mixture of both educational and recreational activities. We take annual trips to Worlds of Fun, the Omaha Zoo, various other local trips and activities. We also take many tours of schools, job sites and community activities. We are attempting to give them a well rounded experience while they are placed with us. We also welcome volunteers from the community to assist in teaching many crafts/skills and mentoring opportunities. The girls are being taught the importance of being held accountable for their behaviors and learning to take responsibility for those actions. We run on a level system that assists in teaching our young ladies how to exist in structure and the importance of following rules and earning things in their live. Above all else we provide boundaries, consistency, and lots and lots of love!

We want to give a BIG thank you to all who came out to First-Plymouth Church's Courtyard on Sunday for our first Walking with WICS Fundraiser Event! Everyone who came enjoyed music good food from Deeply Root'd Sauces & Seasonings, and the kids may have had an excessive amount of sugery goodness between, hot donuts from DonutNV Central Nebraska, ice cream treats from Street Treats, and freshly made cotton candy! A few brave people ventured to the very top of the 171 foot Bell Tower, while others toured the historic neighborhood. The rain even held out until after the event, and we are so thankful for the beautiful day and for all of you who were able to make it!

But May is a big month of giving and there are even more ways to give!
